Summer Bible Reading Plan For Moms

John Piper writes: Don't let summer make your soul shrivel. God made summer as a foretaste of heaven, not a substitute.

If the mailman brings you a love letter from your fiancé, don't fall in love with the mailman. That's what summer is: God's messenger with a sun-soaked, tree-green, flower-blooming, lake-glistening letter of love to show us what he is planning for us in the age to come—"things which the eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered into the heart of man, God has prepared for those who love him" (1 Corinthians 2:9).

It is easy in the midst of summer fun to let our time in God's word slip.  If you are in need of accountability, I want to invite you to join me as I follow this summer reading plan for moms.

This reading plan follows the "S.O.A.P" method and I will be using it alongside Sally Clarkson's book The Ministry of Motherhood.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE SALLY'S BOOK TO JOIN ME!!!!  Reading God's word is first priority.  There will be videos over on Good Morning Girls.org that accompany this reading plan.  We'd love for you to join us - come alone or come as a group!

What is the S.O.A.P method?  The S.O.A.P. Method stands for:

1. S- Write out the scripture passage for the day. (I have a shiny new notebook where I will be writing out the verse/s of the day.)

2. O- Write down 1 or 2 observations from the passage. (After I write out the verse, I will write what I learned from the verse.)

3. A- Write down 1-2 applications from the passage. (Then I will write out how this verse applies to me if it is applicable.)

4. P- Pray over what you learned from today’s passage. (Then I will pray this verse over myself and my family.)

As you go through this study, if you come across a verse or passage that you don’t understand, I recommend Crosswalk’s Bible Study Tools found here: http://www.biblestudytools.com/ On this page in the lower right hand corner, you can find links to Bible dictionaries, commentaries (I like Matthew Henry's and John McArthur's), concordances, and other Bible translations, etc.

I need accountability.  If you need it too just print out the summer reading plan here.

And if you are a blogger and would like to share this with your readers - feel free to copy and paste this little button and link it too http://www.goodmorninggirls.org/

If you don't have a blog - I invite you to spread the word to your family and friends - share the link to this post or Good Morning Girls.org with your facebook, twitter or email friends.

This Is What Women Are Saying...

(My Good Morning Girls Group - 3 are missing)

We had over 1,200 women in the Winter 2011 Good Morning Girls Session!!! (if you are new here - Good Morning Girls are tech accountability groups for reading God's word every morning.  The book club is optional and we will be supplementing Sally Clarkson's book with a Bible reading plan that you can print out next week.)

Enrollment for groups is happening NOW until May 15th.  The summer session runs from May 15th- August 15th.

On May 23rd the Ministry of Motherhood Summer Book Club will begin on the GoodMorningGirls.org site also (you do not have to enroll for this)!

For all the information about the Summer Good Morning Girls Kick-Off click here.

Now here's what women are saying about the winter Good Morning Girls session!

To say I love GMG would be a huge understatement
. This spring will be our groups 4th season (I think). Being accountable to friends and having the encouragement and support from my friends and the GMG blog has been a huge blessing. On days when I might not feel like getting into the word I know my GMG will be asking me the next day where I was.-
Melissa

GMG has given me the opportunity to grow while being unable to attend bible study at my church. It has encouraged me with all the comments from other moms.- Elizabeth

GMG has provided the boost i needed to get back into the word. I love love love that.- Heather J.

GMG has been great for me. I have met some amazing women and even though we are an online group I feel like I’ve really gotten to know them and learned so much from them. I have noticed a difference in my days, when I start with GMG. It has been tough to always start my day with God but with GMG it has been easier to commit to.- Emily

I love my GMG group! It is an interesting group of women, some older with children grown and gone, some working, some stay-at-home, homeschooling, not. I love the accountability and learning what God is sharing for each of these ladies!- Mrs. K

Our family did the GMG’s James study for our morning devotional (we homeschool). What a blessing to study this book together as a family each morning. I printed out the sheets for it and had a notebook for each of us. It looked like I actually had my act together for this!! I also loved it that our last name begins with the letter “G”. The logo stood for Good Morning Garbers Thank you for your wonderful studies and the effort behind each. What a blessing you have been to our ENTIRE family, ages 7 on up!- Suzanne

Good Morning Girls has opened a new world for me. It hass guided me thru the Bible in a way that was never known by me.- Priscilla

GMG has been so instrumental in my spiritual growth. Not everyone in my group is a regular poster, and it was much harder this winter/spring than it had been this fall to post regularly, but I have found that because of GMG I have been reading in my Bible about 5 times a week consistently and the emailing has helped me really think about what I have been learning. It has helped me take some huge strides in my personal faith.- Amie

My GMG has been an incredible experience. I am in the Word more often because of this group. I am amazed by the insights of my group and I have learned so much from them.- Sandi

I always draw such encouragement from GMG! I am in womens ministry and sometimes I find I am always the encourager. I also find how broken ladies relationships are in their homes and with each other. GMG really shows me how many Jesus Girls are really out their fighting that brokeness and it gives me such hope!- Tiffany

GMG has blessed me so much! I was struggling with having daily devotions before I started this group. Now I am getting up earlier in the morning just to have my devotions so I can e-mail all the girls in my group before I leave for work!- Heather

GMG has been a great tool in the last year not only to help keep me accountable to reading and applying God’s Word but also to get to know some of the ladies from my church in a deeper and more meaningful way.- Jenna

I have had a Good Morning Girls group for a year and have loved every minute of it. It has been a lifesaver to know there are women there that will be praying with you and sharing their walk with God helps draw me closer.- Sonya

Wow, Good morning girls has been an blessing. It has kept me consistantly in the Word and has also fed me the Word, through my sister’s postings, during days when I just can’t my household together enough to sit down and study. God has also used the postings of my sisters in Christ to reinforce lessons he already teaching me. It is so so awesome to see his hand at work in such intricate ways.- Hanna

GMG has been a sisterhood when there was none available for me in my transition of physical homes. It was the catalyst for my blog, born out of a desire to love the ladies in my life that I can’t be near with anymore since our move.- Dawn

Good morning Girls has been a God send to me. Having children and not being able to leave the house much is a very sad and lonly and depressing time for me. Good morning Girls has given me the chance to pull together and this time around help host for the first time online fellowship. It has given me adult communication and structure with Gods words. It has helped me run/ teach/ guide my home, family and relationship with my husbands in ways I never expected. My whole life has changed to the good and I am finaly beginning to smile once more and not feel so isolated to the world that is so different in opinions than mine.- Kimberly

We are filled with a diverse group of women, with one purpose – grow closer in our walk. It is so nice to have a place to go to online where I know I will be encouraged. Every day I look forward to seeing who has posted and there is no doubt that our ladies are praying because when you ask for it, you feel it!!  So thankful for each of the ladies and the opportunity that we’ve had to grow. God is AMAZING and this ministry is such a blessing!!- Stephanie

GMG has rocked my socks off!- Sheila

I am SO excited to get this session started!!!  Come Join Us!

    Considering Your Trials a Joy

Last night my Good Morning Girls enjoyed a Girls Night Out. (We are missing 3 ladies in our picture)
There are 11 women in my group emailing each other each morning after we have our quiet times - I LOVE it!

We are now at over 1,000 Good Morning Girls Groups and at over 150 Groups from around the world! It has been SO exciting to see women from nearly every state in the USA including Hawaii and Alaska plus from around the world in Croatia, Australia, Korea, Austria, Germany, Scotland, France, and Canada.

Some of the ladies have joined me for a walk through the Book of James. And today we have completed week 1 in our study. Every Friday I will be writing or making a video to go with our study and it will be posted on my sister site at GoodMorningGirls.org

Going forward I will not duplicate my Friday post here but since it's only week 1, I thought I'd share the video with you all here too. (Sorry it's a bit too dark)

If you are not reading in God's word on a daily basis, I invite you to join me in my walk through the book of James!

Good Morning Girls Fall Session Comes To An End

This past fall we had over 700 ladies from over 40 different states in Good Morning Girls Groups! So exciting!

The fall session has come to an end today, so this video was posted over at GoodMorningGirls.org but I thought I would share it with you all also. (sorry about the goofy expression on my face lol!!! But it was exciting to have my partner,Angela, in town from Texas on my couch! You can read more about her here.)

If you want to start out the new year with accountability for your quiet times, consider creating a Good Morning Girls Group. A Good Morning Girls group is a tech accountability group. We use email, facebook, twitter and texting to every morning say "Good morning, this is what I read in my quiet time!".
You can grab a group of real life friends or find some new friends over on our message board at GoodMorningGirls.org and join us January 1st through January 15th during roll call. The session is 3 months long and will run from January 15th to May 15th.

Your group can choose to read a passage of scripture or use a Bible study of your own or you can join our Book Club through the book of James. I can't wait to do this thing together!

    Magnificent Obssession Giveaway

I have a giveaway to share with you but first an update!!!

On Wednesday, we had a flurry of signups for Good Morning Girls - another 122 girls were added to the Good Morning Girls Roll Call putting us at 706 girls and 123 groups - hooray!!! I am very excited. The number one question ladies are asking is "Can I join late?" YES - if you are just learning about this - we welcome you whenever you have your group together. If you do not have someone you can invite to be in a group with you in real life... go to the message board and contact some of the other ladies who have left their email addresses on the message board.

Today over at GoodMorningGirls.org I am giving away a copy of a book I am currently reading and enjoying. It's by Anne Graham Lotz, the daughter of Billy Graham. I did my first study by Anne this summer titled "Just Give Me Jesus." This video goes with the Just Give Me Jesus study. It is only 5 minutes long but it is packed with 5 minutes of rivoting and inspiring words. Right in the middle, Jill Briscoe tells the story of a little boy - being told he is loved...as a mom of a little boy, I so relate and she so personalized it for me that I teared up watching.

Take a second and watch this and then if you are interested in entering to win the book Magnificent Obession - go to GoodMorningGirls.org and leave a comment to win.

Have a fabulous weekend!! See you back here on Monday!

    625 Is A Nice Number!

So last night I sat and counted up all the ladies enrolled in the Fall Good Morning Girls groups - and we are at 105 groups!!!! How exciting!

There are 625 ladies signed up so far, from exactly 40 States including Good Morning Girls from Alaska, Hawaii and Washington D.C.! How fun!

We also have Good Morning Girls in Germany, Canada, Japan, France, Brazil, Australia and Austria!

There are groups made up of pastor wives, working moms, missionaries, young moms, college friends who are now in their 40's and more. Some are emailing each other daily while others are texting and quite a few created facebook groups where they visit daily to log in their quiet times! Beautiful!

Technically today is the last day for "roll call" (go the message board to sign up) BUT if you are still working on your group - we would love to have you join us midway! The more the merrier!

Starting today, every Wednesday, Angela and I will have a link up titled "Women In the Word Wednesdays." If you are a blogger we invite you to blog about what you are learning in your walk with God (this includes devotionals you have written) and then link up over at Good Morning Girls.Org!

If you are not a blogger, we invite you to weekly share in the comments section what God is teaching you in his word.

The new Good Morning Girls website is all about encouraging you in your personal walk with God. Walking with God will change the entire course of your life. It will change your marriage, your parenting, your homemaking, your friendships, your career path, and even you mood!

Our theme verse for GoodMorningGirls.org is John 15:4 "Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine."

Join me as we journey together in our Walk with the King.

Do You Struggle to Read Your Bible Daily?

Do you struggle to read your Bible daily? That was a unanimous - YES - right? ME TOO!!!

Oh how I struggle - I had NO idea how hard it would be to find sweet savoring moments with my Savior once I became a wife and mom!

In our heavily saturated tech society, I have found my box attached to the wall (that is my computer) to be a great resource for spiritual growth through on-line commentaries, devotionals and blogs. There is a shift from the old days when people sat on their front porches chatting their evening away. When I jog through our neighborhood in the evenings it is desolate. I think everyone is either watching TV or on their computers - probably on Facebook!!!

Remember when our moms were on the phone attached to the wall by a cord! The front porch has been replaced by Facebook and the phone attached to the wall - by a cell phone in our purse! No longer do we need to write letters - we just text each other! I LOVE these short cuts!

Since technology has become everyone's friend - why not use it for a greater good? God's word says: "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!" Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Hebrews 10:24 says, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds."

1 Thessalonians 5:11 says to, "…encourage one another and build each other up…"

Proverbs 27:17 says "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."

This new tech world offers women - who sometimes feel isolated from each other - a chance to connect. Starting a Good Morning Girls group is a way to make those connections deeper and more meaningful.

Are you struggling to read your bible daily? Are you in need of replenishing? Are you thirsty for the living well and the living water of Jesus? Do you need accountability in your daily walk with God? Let's start Fall 2010 off right!!! Consider today starting your own Good Morning Girls group by going here! I'd love to help you along your way! Ladies - we will not live well - until we are drinking from the living well of Jesus - that is what this blog - Women Living Well - is all about!

Jesus said in John 6:35 "He who believes in me will never be thirsty."

If you are thirsty today - do something about it!

My sweet partner Angela over at GoodMorningGirls.org has made a one minute message for you!!! She lives in Texas...but can you guess where she was just yesterday when she made this video???

If creating a group is not for you, we would still love for you to follow along starting September 15th as we blog 3 days a week at GoodMorningGirls.org We will blog specifically to encourage you in your daily walk with the King! Angela will blog on Mondays, we will both share blogging on Wednesdays about what we are learning in our quiet times (and we'd love to hear on that day what you are learning too!) and on Fridays I will be starting a new series titled "Foundational Verses You Should Know" (and really these are verses your children should know too!). See you there!

The Unveiling Of My Brand New Website

In the title of this post I said "my" but really it's "our". Angela (pictured on the right - one of my dearest friends for 20 years) has built a beautiful new website for the Fall Good Morning Girls groups.

Let me be honest, I LOVE writing here at Women Living Well. I LOVE my readers so much and pray for you all often. I enjoy opening the doors to my home and saying - this is what I am learning in the areas of my marriage, parenting and homemaking.

But at the end of the day, if I didn't have my walk with the King, if I wasn't daily in God's word and praying... my marriage, parenting and homemaking would crumble.

The only thing that sustains me daily is God's word. I am utterly and completely dependent on God for everything.

I have written on the first page of my prayer journal "Observed duties maintain our credit, but secret duties maintain our life." It's the secret duty of getting alone with God every morning that maintains my life.

Do you struggle in your consistency with your quiet times? Do you wish you had a few friends you could discuss deeper things with - like your quiet times with God?

Let me explain the concept of "Good Morning Girls".

The "Good Morning Girls" is a title for a group of women who use email (or Facebook, Twitter and text messaging) to keep each other accountable for their quiet times. For 3 years, I have been a part of 5 girls who email each other each weekday morning after we have our quiet time. We say "Good Morning" and then share what we read in our quiet time. Some of us have our quiet time first thing in the morning, while others squeeze it in during children's naps or at bedtime.

This past summer there were over 600 Good Morning Girls!!!! And it's almost time for the fall session to begin, so invite a group of friends and join us on this journey. If you don't have someone to ask - check out the Good Morning Girls message board. From September 1st through September 15th - you can enroll on this message board. This is a 3 month commitment (ends December 15th).

I hope you will stop by today and take a peak. There's a video there from me to welcome you, a new message board and a blog where Angela and I will be writing about our quiet times. So if you want a sneak peak into my secret duties that maintain my life - be sure to subscribe.

Go check it out and tell us what you think!!!

Walk with the King and let him knock your socks off - he loves you so!

Quiet Time Tip - The Buddy System

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 NASB

For those who are new to Women Living Well - you may not know that I have a sister site called Good Morning Girls. Today Teri Lynne over at Scripture Dig is featuring Women Living Well's Good Morning Girls site.

The "Good Morning Girls" is a title for a group of women who use email, facebook, texting or twitter to keep each other accountable for their quiet times. For 3 years straight, I have been a part of 5 girls who email each other each weekday morning after we have our quiet time. We say "Good Morning" and then share what we read in our quiet time. Some of us have our quiet time first thing in the morning, while others squeeze it in during children's naps or at bedtime.

The Good Morning Girls groups run for three months at a time - this summer session will end August 15th. If you would like to get in on the next session, start thinking now about who'd you invite to join you and then sign ups will begin September 1st over on the Good Morning Girls Message Board.

This summer we had over 100 groups with 600 ladies sign up. We are from 34 different states and 5 different countries! Most groups have 3-11 ladies in it. But there is one church that has 68 women and another group on facebook that has 32! We simply are using the buddy system (accountability) to keep us in God's word.

To read more about what accountability provides and what to look for in an accountability partner - visit Teri Lynn at Scripture Dig. Scripture Dig is an excellent quiet time tool that I recommend you follow! The ladies who write there KNOW THEIR STUFF! And are focused on helping us dig into scripture. My favorite post on there is understanding all the different Bible translations. This is a confusing topic that they wrote with clarity on.

To learn more about what the Good Morning Girls groups are all about, listen to this 2 minute video here. Pray about who God may want to be your Buddy for the fall. And if you simply cannot wait until September 1st to get started, we welcome you to sign up on the message board now and get started mid-session!

    Let Me Introduce You

Please allow me to introduce you to one of my best friends since high school - (yes, we have known each other nearly 20 years! Now that really ages me!) Why do you need to know her? Because she is my new partner over on GoodMorningGirls.org and I know once you meet her you will fall in love with her too.

We have double dated together, attended the same youth group, and were even in each other’s weddings. We’re blessed to have known each other through so many seasons of our lives.

Angela graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College with a degree in Elementary Education and worked as a 5th grade teacher while putting her husband through medical school. She has also earned a Masters Degree in Instructional Technology from Bowling Green State University. She has worked for a total of 7 years in the education field before “retiring” and becoming a stay at home mom and wife.

Angela is married to her best friend Dirk, who also happens to be her high school sweetheart, for 10 years. She is the proud mommy to her sweet daughters Paige (4) and Addie (2).

Angela enjoys spending time with her family, photography, web surfing and reading books on parenting, marriage, prayer and fasting.

Angela’s home church is LakePointe in Rockwall, Texas.

Angela’s passion is to encourage women to love their husbands, love their families and realize their God-given importance in being the glue that holds their family together.

I hope you will join her on Monday over at www.goodmorninggirls.org as she gives the first challenge for the Good Morning Girls Groups (by the way we are at 60 groups now, with nearly 350 women, with over 26 states represented and 4 countries! The deadline to sign-up was yesterday, but if you are still working on your group - just come on over this week, we'd love to have you!!!)

It's Not All About Our Quiet Time

Francis Chan (author of Crazy Love) says imagine you told your child - "Go clean your room."

Then your child walked away and returned and said: "I memorized what you said...I can say it in Greek! In fact, some of my friends are going to come over tonight and do a little study on what it would look like for me to clean my room!"

That scenario is absurd! Yet, are we guilty of doing that in our quiet times? Is there a disconnect between our quiet time and our application of God's word in real life?

We can read God's word, study it, memorize it, look up the Greek meaning and even apply it to hypothetical situations. But all of this is a worthless ritual if we do not apply what we read in God's word to our daily lives.

We just launched the Good Morning Girls website last Friday. We now have almost 20 brand new groups who have signed up so far - states represented are: Ohio (3 cheers for my home state!!!), Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Nevada, Virginia, Nebraska, Maryland and Oklahoma!

I am over the top excited to see so many brand new Good Morning Girls groups BUT I just want to be honest here - it's not ALL about our quiet times...

Walk as Jesus walked as you Walk with the King!

Side note: For all the winter GMG groups returning, please sign up for the new session - I have not heard from many of you but I know many of you are still going. Please sign-up on the message board here!

Check Out This HUGE Good Morning Girls Group!

This post is one of my favorite posts of the year! It is fulfilling for me to see women Walking with the King . My heart's passion is to see you, my reader, walking with the King of Kings in your own daily life as he transforms you into an amazing Godly woman.

Let me share with you pictures of the largest Good Morning Girls group yet! This group is all from the same church in Bellwether, MS and they have 43 women in their group (Linda Tate their pastors wife has divided the groups accordingly)! You ladies are beautiful and radiate the love of Jesus from the inside out!

If you are new to Women Living Well - you maybe asking "what in the world is a Good Morning Girls Group?"

The short definition is: The "Good Morning Girls" is a title for a group of women who use email to keep each other accountable for their quiet times. Each weekday morning they email each other to say "Good Morning" and to share what they read during their quiet time with the Lord.

There are now nearly 50 groups with 350+ Good Morning Girls - Wow! They are located in OH, WA, VA, TX, MN, SC, AL IL, ID, KY, GA, IN, MD, CA, OR, MS, MI, Australia, Africa and Taiwan (if I missed your state or country please add it in the comment section!).

The winter session began January 15th and today, April 15th the winter session comes to an end. So if you are in a group - please take a week or two off and reassess your committments to your group. This break gives ladies who have decided this is not for them a chance to exit or vice versa - if you have a friend who wants to join your group - now's the time! Regroup, reorganize and recommit to walking with the King.

    Good Morning Girls Update

I am excited to share with you a Good Morning Girls Update for the Winter Session. If you are not familiar with what this is here's the short definition: The "Good Morning Girls" is a title for a group of women who use email to keep each other accountable for their quiet times. Each weekday morning they email each other to say "Good Morning" and to share what they read during their quiet time with the Lord. For a more detailed version read here.

Pictured on the right is my group - we have been emailing each other daily for nearly 3 years! These ladies are truly gems to my spiritual life! Currently there are 45 Good Morning Girls Groups! There are around 350 women involved! I am just esctatic to see this many women holding each other accountable! You women ROCK!

So I have to share a story and some pictures. First I received this email THIS WEEK!

    **Dear Courtney,
I just wanted to pass on this encouragement to you!! I emailed you about 3 weeks ago when I started a Good Morning Girls group at our church with 12 other women. We are in Jackson, MS and our church is Bellwether (http://www.blogger.com/www.bellwetherchurch.org). The first Good Morning Girls did so well that other women approached me. I'm the head pastor's wife. I opened it up to other women in our church, and now we have 43 women participating in Good Morning Girls! I just want to thank you for inspiring me to pursue this in our church!
    Signed - Linda
Linda later shared with me that they divided their group into 3 with a maximum of 16 in each group. I am just overjoyed to hear what God is doing in this church!

Next I have received some pictures - hooray! I love to see all of your smiling faces - so please keep sending them! Here's a group from the state of Washington below! Their smiles are gorgeous!
And here's a group from my neck of the woods - Akron, Ohio! It looks like they enjoyed a night out with each other.
For photos of more groups and more information - page down here. God is doing great things and though our session began January 15th it is never to late to begin your accountability group. If you have a group - you can start today - just follow the instructions here. If you would like to start a group in the future we will have summer sign-ups April15th -May 15th. I hope you will join us!

    Good Morning Girls Winter Kick-Off

Do you wish you were more consistent in your daily walk with God?
Do you wish you had a few friends you could discuss deeper things with - like your quiet times with God?
How about starting a Good Morning Girls Group?

The "Good Morning Girls" is a title for a group of women who use email to keep each other accountable for their quiet times.

I have changed the format for sign-ups for 2010. Rather than emailing me and then receiving monthly newsletters, I would like you to sign-up on the message board and we will chat there. This will make my communication with you easier AND allow you all to chat with each other IF you want to. I will be adding some challenges - like a day of fasting, a week of pursuing joy, gentleness, forgiveness etc. So be sure to let your group know about the message board - it is not just for the leaders but for ALL Good Morning Girls!

To Sign-Up Now - Go to the Message Board
and click on the thread that says "sign up here".
