Janelle says "On Christmas morning, I am the first one awake ( a big kid at heart). I start out by making cinnamon rolls, biscuits and sausage gravy, brewing coffee, and setting water and orange juice out on the table. Once my cinnamon rolls are baking in the oven, I can hear my son upstairs waking up the girls exclaiming that he has peeked down at the Christmas tree and there are presents to open!

I hurry to place the sausage gravy in the crock pot on warm and place the biscuits in a ceramic bread basket in the microwave (so I can press the 1 to warm them up when we are ready!) My parents and in-laws should be here any second and my part of breakfast is all ready to go...now I can relax and soak up this wonderful time of my motherhood ...(.I mean my children's childhood ha, ha).
We exchange presents, pray and praise, and enjoy breakfast with one another...mom brings her egg casserole and my mother-in-law brings the breakfast meats...it is the most special morning of the year for so many reasons, the biggest reason being THE ultimate gift...Jesus Christ."
Biscuits, sausage, milk, flour, salt and pepper
Brown sausage on med-high heat, when it is cooked through add flour and turn heat down to low
The flour makes a paste on top of the sausage
Add milk and turn up heat to med-high again
Add salt and pepper and stir constantly until it thickens
Biscuits are ready!
Here you have it! MMMmmmm
Sausage Gravy over Biscuits
1 lb Bob Evan's Sausage (bulk roll)
1 (8 count) container of Grand's Buttermilk Biscuits
1/3 cup flour
3 cups milk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
*Bake biscuits according to package instructions- while they are in the oven do the following:
1. Cook sausage in a skillet on med-high heat and crumble into small pieces with a spatula.
2. When sausage is cooked through, turn down heat to low- add flour and stir to make a paste on sausage
3. Add milk, salt and pepper and stir.
4. Turn heat back to med-high while stirring constantly while it thickens
(about 5 mins)
P.S. Because I use "skim milk"..this recipe has no effect on my waistline (LOL)

I have always been intimidated by gravy. (My granny's is the BEST!) If I ever make it at home, which is rare, I use a packet. I'm so excited to try this!! Thanks for the recipe & for making it look easy. :) Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeletePLEASE don't think I'm being disrespectful in anyway. I'm honestly not. But I've started reading the Bible from beginning to end and was surprised to read that God told His people to not eat pigs (they were unclean He said). So now I'm thinking I shouldn't eat pork products. But I know many Christians do and I've never heard it an issue- except among Jewish people. Is there a verse later on in the Bible that says it is okay? (I'm only in 2 Kings right now). This is still very new to me. Was wondering if you could help???

ReplyDeleteThe Levitical law was written for the people of Israel for multiple reasons. One, they did not have the research we have today to know which animals were "clean" and "unclean" or dangerous for their health to eat. God was protecting his people from diseases that would come from eating certain animals.
Also, the law points to the cross. The Israelites had to slaughter sheep, goats, bulls, rams etc. to foreshadow the need for the blood of the lamb - that is our Savior Jesus.
When Jesus died on the cross he fulfilled the law (Matt.5:17,18). And now we are under grace. So nothing in the law today needs to be followed (which is why we do not follow all the other Levitical laws such as sacrificing animals). Jesus fulfilled the law...we are saved by faith by his grace (Eph.2)
Pork is okay to eat :-)! So enjoy!

ReplyDeleteOh my, that gravy looks delish! We do sausage balls on Christmas morning because our family dinner is always the big one (ham, sweet potato casserole, etc, etc), but I will definitely try this another time!

Just wanted to chime in to say that I tried the quiche and it is AMAZING!!! My mom was even here babysitting the day after I made it and had two slices as leftovers and love it.

ReplyDeleteAlthough we no longer live under the law, it is my feeling that those things God put in writing about diet are for our own good as far as our health is concerned, so my family tries to avoid them as much as possible.
We feel that we will be healthier if we abstain from pork, bottom feeders, etc. (That is not to say we don't indulge periodically.)
However, not everyone is convicted this way, and that is okay.
Turkey sausage is available as a substitute for those who choose not to use pork.
