Reshaping It All and a Giveaway

Over Christmas, I began reading Reshaping It All: Motivation for Physical and Spiritual Fitness written by Candace Cameron Bure (formerly known as DJ from Full House) and Darlene Schacht who blogs over at Time Warp Wives.

Not only have I been reading it, I have been applying it!! So let me share with you a few of the principles I have learned from the book.

1. "This outer shell is simply an envelop for my spirit. The contents are precious, eternal and costly, bought with a price, and the envelop has been fashioned by the world's greatest designer, the Creator Himself." pg. 66 It is tempting to put too much focus on our outer "envelope"...but it is the precious contents - my spirit and soul that God has redeemed and that will live forever. But we must remember that God did choose to give us this "envelope" and he designed it as he pleased. (Psalm 139:13-16)

2. "God loves you, just the shape you are and there isn't a single number on the scale that could ever change that." pg. 67

3. "Each year, each week, each day, and each hour we are offered choices. Should I grab water or a soda pop, a bag of chips or an apple?...take the stairs or the elevator? The reason we fail to consider these choices as carefully as we should is because the value we place on them is so low." pg. 83 This is SO true about learning any discipline in life. It's the small battles won day in and day out that show a life transformed. It's saying no to our flesh over and over and over and over that over time show a life of victory.

4. "When we resist temptation, it eventually flees." (James 4:7) pg.83 This is so very true. For a fleeting few minutes we may face temptation when everyone is eating dessert. But when the dessert time has ended, the temptation also ends and we learn indeed we can survive without dessert!

5. "Self-disciplines when applied to our life not only bring self-respect; they also bring the respect from others around us." pg 100 The Proverbs 31 woman led a life of discipline and as a result both her husband and children praised her. People who seek out the quick fixes are less remarkable and usually return to their old ways. But those who are diligent to lead a disciplined life - often demand the attention of others - they are remarkable!

6. Prosperity gives us the option for gluttony, a sin the Bible warns against. But many of us aren't sure where pleasure ends and gluttony begins...Proverbs 23:20-21 speaks against a gluttonous lifestyle...in Latin gluttire means "to gulp down or swallow"...In Hebrew it means "to have in excess." The modern definition of the word gluttony is to habitually eat to excess." pg. 111 This is a hard truth to swallow...isn't it *{blush}

What is fun about this book is not only does it give you great principles to live by but it also includes Candace's testimony, solid scripture references, realistic tips to apply and even recipes!!!

This week I whipped up for my family three of Candace's dishes! I made her Orange Chicken Fajitas, Oven Roasted Broccoli with Lemon Baked Salmon (not pictured), and her Turkey Meatloaf (ignore the butter on the potatoes - I know it's not healthy lol! I'm a work in progress okay? hehe!). And I plan to make a few more of her recipes this week!

This gives you a great intro to this book. I highly recommend it. I honestly could write 5 posts on this book - but let me leave you with this one staggering truth! I have been applying it THIS week and I lost 3 pounds - now mind you - I'm coming off the holiday sugar rush...but I still see how this book is transforming my thinking and helping me to think clearly about what and why I eat. It feels good to be practicing self-control again in this area of my life.

I absolutely agree about the small battles. My weakness is grabbing a specialty coffee drink on the way to work, far too often. It's one of those things that used to be a treat but has morphed into a habit, and which I'm trying to change.

It is the small battles! I've tried to be more mindful this week in my eating too (as I'm recovering from the Christmas sugar rush myself) and I've found that if I take a moment, make a cup of tea and really think about whether I want that treat or not, often times I can live without it.

I'd love this book for the reminders it offers. It sounds very encouraging!

I would love to read that! Of all days, Sundays are the absolute worst for my eating. I skip breakfast because we're in a rush, and then eat too much for lunch, and too late for dinner. I just finished eating supper because we got home so late from evening service and finally got the kids to bed.

Anyway, I needed this reminder. Guess I'll start tomorrow!! ;)

How fun, I'd love to win!

I love your comment about choices because it's so true. We sometimes forget that we have a choice because we can eat out of habit, so to speak.

I haven't had any pop for awhile, and today we went out to lunch and I noticed that I didn't even miss it. I had water instead.

In the past I'd be asking myself "pop or water? pop or water?" but since I've been off it for awhile, I guess I've become used to it now.

Thanks for linking up to Making Your Home Sing Monday!

Choices, choices, choices, that is what it all comes down to. Even choosing to not choose is choosing. :)

"It's the small battles won day in and day out that show a life transformed."

This is sooo true! I have been thinking about this a lot and am praying. Thank you for sharing!!!

I could really use this book right now! My big New Year's resolution is to quit smoking and I'm already up 6 pounds in 9 days in addition to the 20 I already needed to lose. Ugh! Although I do have weight to lose, it sounds like this book approaches it in a very uplifting way, which I love. I hope I win! :)

WOW!!!! That is alot of comments. I just wanted to say that I have the book. I want another copy for a gift to give one of my siblings or my mother. Or a cousin. Or any relative or friend. I am beyond words to describe how much this book has helped me. I am only through Chapter 8. Candace and Darlene have helped me so much in the writing of this book. I prayed for a long time for something like this. And it came. AMEN!!! I am a person who struggles with many things. And this is helping me. I have told everyone I know about it. Its amazing. God Bless Candace and Darlene. God is going to use this and keep on using it. I found your website through Candace tweeting about Darlene and the book. And now I have joined your book club, Your Bible Study. You have no idea how turned off I was to any Godly people. And now I just trying to RESHAPE my life. I want to live. And live with the helpful things that are written in this book, in God's word, the fellowship of the Christian women I have met since I heard about this book, and so much more. I don't think Candace and Darlene know how much this book is going to help a gazillion girls much worse off then me. I just want to pass this book to everyone. Its going to take a long while to heal me. But its all about Reshaping. God Bless.

Remember the focus is not about weight loss. Its about changing your way of thinking. Its not a diet. Not at all. Its so much more. Renewing your mind. Its wonderful. Sorry I had to post that. Congrats on losing weight if that is what you wanted. But for me with an eating disorder - its helping me look at food differently and look at life differently.

From your post it seems there is a lot of common sense and honesty about our love for food and our *at times* over indulgence. I teach a class to Middle School students that focuses on healthy eating and the importance of exercise. Self discipline is the key and yet so hard to achieve w/out a good role model to look to. Sounds like I could incorporate a lot from this book into my class.

In Sept. of 2010 I finally realized the importance and the connection between our physical health and our spiritual health.(When I am putting junk into my body, I do not think as clearly.)So I have made some majoy changes - one being giving up soda - this is something I have tried SO many times in the past - and Praise the Lord He has given me the victory - I have not had one since Sept 10th.
I would love to be entered in to the drawing for this book, it looks like it would be very helpful on the journey that I am on. Thanks,

I know that He has great things in store for me and pray that I will be obedient enough to listen.
