Reshaping It All and a Giveaway

Over Christmas, I began reading Reshaping It All: Motivation for Physical and Spiritual Fitness written by Candace Cameron Bure (formerly known as DJ from Full House) and Darlene Schacht who blogs over at Time Warp Wives.

Not only have I been reading it, I have been applying it!! So let me share with you a few of the principles I have learned from the book.

1. "This outer shell is simply an envelop for my spirit. The contents are precious, eternal and costly, bought with a price, and the envelop has been fashioned by the world's greatest designer, the Creator Himself." pg. 66 It is tempting to put too much focus on our outer "envelope"...but it is the precious contents - my spirit and soul that God has redeemed and that will live forever. But we must remember that God did choose to give us this "envelope" and he designed it as he pleased. (Psalm 139:13-16)

2. "God loves you, just the shape you are and there isn't a single number on the scale that could ever change that." pg. 67

3. "Each year, each week, each day, and each hour we are offered choices. Should I grab water or a soda pop, a bag of chips or an apple?...take the stairs or the elevator? The reason we fail to consider these choices as carefully as we should is because the value we place on them is so low." pg. 83 This is SO true about learning any discipline in life. It's the small battles won day in and day out that show a life transformed. It's saying no to our flesh over and over and over and over that over time show a life of victory.

4. "When we resist temptation, it eventually flees." (James 4:7) pg.83 This is so very true. For a fleeting few minutes we may face temptation when everyone is eating dessert. But when the dessert time has ended, the temptation also ends and we learn indeed we can survive without dessert!

5. "Self-disciplines when applied to our life not only bring self-respect; they also bring the respect from others around us." pg 100 The Proverbs 31 woman led a life of discipline and as a result both her husband and children praised her. People who seek out the quick fixes are less remarkable and usually return to their old ways. But those who are diligent to lead a disciplined life - often demand the attention of others - they are remarkable!

6. Prosperity gives us the option for gluttony, a sin the Bible warns against. But many of us aren't sure where pleasure ends and gluttony begins...Proverbs 23:20-21 speaks against a gluttonous lifestyle...in Latin gluttire means "to gulp down or swallow"...In Hebrew it means "to have in excess." The modern definition of the word gluttony is to habitually eat to excess." pg. 111 This is a hard truth to swallow...isn't it *{blush}

What is fun about this book is not only does it give you great principles to live by but it also includes Candace's testimony, solid scripture references, realistic tips to apply and even recipes!!!

This week I whipped up for my family three of Candace's dishes! I made her Orange Chicken Fajitas, Oven Roasted Broccoli with Lemon Baked Salmon (not pictured), and her Turkey Meatloaf (ignore the butter on the potatoes - I know it's not healthy lol! I'm a work in progress okay? hehe!). And I plan to make a few more of her recipes this week!

This gives you a great intro to this book. I highly recommend it. I honestly could write 5 posts on this book - but let me leave you with this one staggering truth! I have been applying it THIS week and I lost 3 pounds - now mind you - I'm coming off the holiday sugar rush...but I still see how this book is transforming my thinking and helping me to think clearly about what and why I eat. It feels good to be practicing self-control again in this area of my life.

I have not commented before. I love your blog it has been a source of encouragement. I would love this book as I am finally figuring out health problems that have plagued me for 5 years. I am on thyroid medication and working on a healthy cleansing of my system - particularly my kidneys as I have suffered lately with large stones that cannot be passed. I have been hospitalized and had stints and surgeries on my kidneys. No more. I need to be healthy for my amazing hubby and my four beautiful children that I homeschool. Thanks for all you do in sharing your heart. What a blessing.

I am just coming to the realization that the Most High God loves me!.... really, really loves me and longs to be all that i need....my healer, my comforter, my counselor, the father to my 3 boys, my encourager, my helper, my provider and so on. For all the reasons i went to food, He has been there waiting for me. After 20 years of being a care taker for my 25 yr old brain injured son, enduring domestic violence in a marriage of 27 years (that was simply a marriage by the certificate) and being a single Mom for 2 years while bringing home commission only (yikes) to my 3 son's, I finally get it. It is time to put me back on my day planner!!! I have worked so hard at being the perfect care taker, mother, daughter, sister, friend and neglected myself and the temple of Lord as a result. Seeking balance in 2011!! I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me Moment by Moment!!

I love Candace she is one of the sweetest person I know. I have been looking for her book in stores around me and no one has it. ( I was very surprised at that)I am dying to read her book. I saw her on a show being interviewed and she gave four tips from her book which I have been applying to my life and I was excited to see they are working. I was also excited to see the book talks about her being a christian. What a great way to witness. Keep it up Candace!

Hey there,
Candace Cameron has certainly grown into a fabulous woman... I grew up with Full House, and always admired the family dynamic. Though those girls will always be known as "DJ from Full House" or "Stephanie from Full House" or "The Olsen Twins from Full House" they will always have their own individual personalities. I think it's great that Candace is using the opportunity to speak to the masses in such a positive way. I recently read Jodie Sweetin's book "Unsweetined" and thought it was an incredibly honest insight into her life. A great book, admirable, to say the least. I'd love to have Candace's book as well.

Wow - thank you for the opportunity. My family is currently on the Daniel Fast, day 11 of 40, and we have seen tremendous blessings. I am not stepping on the scale until day 41 but my husband has lost 13 pounds so far. Thank you for today's post as well, I have a definite sweet tooth. But God took away my sugar cravings on Day 4. I'm sure if I were to start eating sugar again today they would return but I was amazed they were gone in 4 days!

Sounds like a great read! I got on the road to better health last year and lost 35 pounds on top of losing the pregnancy weight. After trying to lose weight for 4 years (losing 10, gaining it back again, etc.)the thing that finally got me was the whole issue of gluttony. Gluttony is a sin, and I was eating wayyyy too much all the time. After the Lord convicted me of that, I was able to start seeing lasting success. During the holidays I gained about 5-10 pounds back; I am not going to allow myself to get back into my old bad habits. Time to get back on track!

What a great book. I love the way it puts the spritual first and the physical second. I have often thought our first purpose is to keep our bodies healthy because they are the temple of God. I also want to be in shape so that I can serve Him with all my strength no matter how old I get.
When God and His purpose is first, then our desire to look nice will be in the right attitude and in the proper prespective. Thanks for the giveaway!

I think I would enjoy reading this book. I too know the struggles of trying to be more obedient and putting my "self" back to be able to put God first. Even with the seemingly small things (such as what to make for dinner!, etc), God wants us to be obedient and let Him lead our lives. I'm trying to open my heart more and use both my ears to try to listen to Him =D
