Reshaping It All and a Giveaway

Over Christmas, I began reading Reshaping It All: Motivation for Physical and Spiritual Fitness written by Candace Cameron Bure (formerly known as DJ from Full House) and Darlene Schacht who blogs over at Time Warp Wives.

Not only have I been reading it, I have been applying it!! So let me share with you a few of the principles I have learned from the book.

1. "This outer shell is simply an envelop for my spirit. The contents are precious, eternal and costly, bought with a price, and the envelop has been fashioned by the world's greatest designer, the Creator Himself." pg. 66 It is tempting to put too much focus on our outer "envelope"...but it is the precious contents - my spirit and soul that God has redeemed and that will live forever. But we must remember that God did choose to give us this "envelope" and he designed it as he pleased. (Psalm 139:13-16)

2. "God loves you, just the shape you are and there isn't a single number on the scale that could ever change that." pg. 67

3. "Each year, each week, each day, and each hour we are offered choices. Should I grab water or a soda pop, a bag of chips or an apple?...take the stairs or the elevator? The reason we fail to consider these choices as carefully as we should is because the value we place on them is so low." pg. 83 This is SO true about learning any discipline in life. It's the small battles won day in and day out that show a life transformed. It's saying no to our flesh over and over and over and over that over time show a life of victory.

4. "When we resist temptation, it eventually flees." (James 4:7) pg.83 This is so very true. For a fleeting few minutes we may face temptation when everyone is eating dessert. But when the dessert time has ended, the temptation also ends and we learn indeed we can survive without dessert!

5. "Self-disciplines when applied to our life not only bring self-respect; they also bring the respect from others around us." pg 100 The Proverbs 31 woman led a life of discipline and as a result both her husband and children praised her. People who seek out the quick fixes are less remarkable and usually return to their old ways. But those who are diligent to lead a disciplined life - often demand the attention of others - they are remarkable!

6. Prosperity gives us the option for gluttony, a sin the Bible warns against. But many of us aren't sure where pleasure ends and gluttony begins...Proverbs 23:20-21 speaks against a gluttonous lifestyle...in Latin gluttire means "to gulp down or swallow"...In Hebrew it means "to have in excess." The modern definition of the word gluttony is to habitually eat to excess." pg. 111 This is a hard truth to swallow...isn't it *{blush}

What is fun about this book is not only does it give you great principles to live by but it also includes Candace's testimony, solid scripture references, realistic tips to apply and even recipes!!!

This week I whipped up for my family three of Candace's dishes! I made her Orange Chicken Fajitas, Oven Roasted Broccoli with Lemon Baked Salmon (not pictured), and her Turkey Meatloaf (ignore the butter on the potatoes - I know it's not healthy lol! I'm a work in progress okay? hehe!). And I plan to make a few more of her recipes this week!

This gives you a great intro to this book. I highly recommend it. I honestly could write 5 posts on this book - but let me leave you with this one staggering truth! I have been applying it THIS week and I lost 3 pounds - now mind you - I'm coming off the holiday sugar rush...but I still see how this book is transforming my thinking and helping me to think clearly about what and why I eat. It feels good to be practicing self-control again in this area of my life.

Wow, this book looks wonderful. I had not heard of this book until reading your blog this AM. I googled the book and found so many interesting book reviews. The one I loved the most was when it was mentioned that "this is more than a testimony, it is a motivational tool that will put readers on the right track." What busy Mom or struggling single woman with/without kids that doesn't need help getting on track in our busy day to day lives! Who had time to put themselves first when we try to make everyone else in our family happy, healthy and comfortable. I would be so grateful for that chance to win and to "get on track"!

I sure would love to win a copy of this book. After having my 2 boys and working full time night shift as a nurse, I have struggled with my weight. I have been so discouraged, and it has affected everything - my attitude, my joy, my relationship with my husband. I know that sounds really bad, but it has been a discouraging time. I would love to learn better how to have the perspective and attitude towards my body that God wants me to have.

Ohh, I love the envelope analogy. I would love to win this book and have been hoping for help with losing some weight. I've always been able to eat pretty much anything and stay slim. Now over the last year and a half my food shows up on my behind, my hips, thighs...etc. I've never worked on losing weight or denying myself food before. I would be great to win on our tight budget. I think I've stopped buying the healthier foods because the cheap is well...cheaper. I need to splurge on healthful eating once more but the money isn't there. Julies

What an awesome sounding book! This comes at the perfect time. I have 18, 15 and 6 year old girls and a 14 year old boy. My 6 yr old commented on her weight yesterday!! And...let's not forget, this affects boys also. My 14 yr old is on the verge of way too skinny because kids called him fat last year. You can see his collar bone and ribs now. Would love to read it as a family. Thanks for all you do!

I would LOVE to read this book -- weight loss from a Christian perspective! I lost 109 lbs. nine years ago but I still struggle with weight (am trying to lose 14 lbs. right now to get back to my original goal weight)... it is a life-long battle and I am always looking for encouraging, godly perspectives on the issue!

At the beginning of the year I started my weight loss program. I cut out pop completely and lost 45 lbs in 3 months. I am looking to lose at most 20 more lbs. I am struggling with this at this point because I believe that I have reached my peak. I am looking for ways to tone up and lose more weight. I have been hearing so much about this book and if I don't win one of your books in this giveaway it will definitely be on my purchase list in the very near future. Looking forward to learning new tips and tricks as well as health conscious recipes. Keep up the good work Candace Cameron Bure.

Candance is such an inspiration to me. She's overcome the horridness of the limelight and has grown into an even more beautiful woman with beautiful children (and a pretty hot hubby ;)). Unfortunately, it's hard for me to emulate her strength of saying no to certain foods, but I'm trying! :)
