Tasty Tuesday: Baked Caramel Apples - Perfect For Fall!

(Tasty Tuesdays now feature Janelle)

Autumn is my favorite time of year...when the air cools, the sun shines, and the leaves turn color. One of the first things I want to do with my children is to take them to the many wonderful apple orchards we have in our area. We pick so many that our home is bursting at the seams with apples!! Here is one of my favorite apple recipes... you will LOVE the smell and taste of this comfort dish. Add it as a side, eat it alone, or top it "a la mode" (ice cream).... enjoy!

Water, brown sugar, flour, butter, salt, cinnamon and apples - looks like one got away in the background! Oops!

Start making your homemade caramel sauce by placing in the sauce pan the brown sugar, water, butter, salt, and flour.

Heat until bubbling-it will thicken.

Peel your apples.

Cut apples into medium sized chunks.

Pour homemade caramel sauce over the cut apples.

"Dot" with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Cover and bake in a 350 oven for 1 hour, stirring at the 30 min mark.

ahhhhhh...

Fresh out of the oven...

An amazing accompaniment to pork chops.

Baked Caramel Apples Serves 6
Preheat oven to 350
Peel and cut about 8 apples into quarters (enough to fill a 9” round baking dish)

Sauce:
1 cup brown sugar
¼ cup water
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp flour

Put all sauce ingredients into a saucepan and bring to soft boil-it will thicken and turn into a caramel/gravy texture.

Place apples in baking dish and cover with caramel and stir. Dot with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon. Cover and bake for 1 hour stirring at the 30 min mark.

Enjoy!

Yum, yum, oh yum. Thanks for posting this! We always have homemade waffles, "rolly" sausage, and "baked apples" when we trim our Christmas tree. It was my family's traditional Christmas morning breakfast but I decided I didn't want to be in the kitchen all morning on Christmas.

I always just buy the Bob Evans baked apples from the grocery store which taste wonderful and make a great "syrup" for waffles but probably have stuff we don't need/want in them.

I'm anxious to try this recipe. Maybe before we trim our tree "just to make sure" {wink}.

I love this recipe! I will definitely be making it very soon. I really like the idea of the apples poured over ice cream but it looks wonderful with the pork too. I know it will be very popular in our house, that is for sure! Thanks for sharing it.

Love this recipe. I like knowing I can make caramel apples without using the box mixes. Look forward to trying this one after we go apple picking.

Thanks Ladies! I hope you and your families enjoy-Great suggestions Mrs. K! My favorite apples to eat are Fuji..however I like to mix apples when baking...a great baking mix is Jonagolds, Granny Smith and Red Delish! You get a tart-sweet-tangy mixture that is amazing. For marinated pork I use 1/2 bottle of Italian dressing and 1/2 bottle of ranch dressing. A friend told me about this mixture and it is wonderful on pork and chicken! The milk base in the ranch makes it very juicy and tender. I marinate overnight- I grill on both sides until it is just slightly pink (it continues to cook when you take it off the grill). I season with seasoned salt. The Cornbread w/Honey Butter recipe will be displayed on Tasty Tues! Thanks for your interest and I encourage questions- I am here to help!

Oh! Almost forgot: This is how I make green beans- I cook 6 slices of bacon in a skillet until done and add 1 cup of cut onions and saute them. I add 1 package of frozen green beans or 3 cans of cut green beans...turn it on low..add 1 cup of water and cover. Add salt and pepper at your desired amount.

We just made this! Thanks for posting! We had apples from the neighbor's tree (like 50 of them)! I had already peeled 20 apples this morning for apple sauce, so 8 more was no big deal. It made a ton and my husband liked it although my son wouldn't try them. It was super sweet, but extra tasty. I hope it tastes good cold too!!

Thanks Kama! So glad you enjoyed the recipe! Depending on the apple you choose the recipe will vary in it's sweetness. A Granny Smith apple might be just what you are looking for next time! Or even a mix of different apples. Sounds like you have wonderful neighbors!!!!!! Cooking for the King, Janelle :)
