The Way To a Man's Heart Is Through His Stomach

We are to week #6 of the "Completing Him" Marriage Challenge and this week's challenge is: Make your husband a priority. Ask him what his favorite dinner, dessert and drink are. Be sure to serve him all three one night this week. Bonus: cook his favorite dishes all week long!

Why would I make such a challenge and how is it significant? Here's a couple reasons:

1. Often times, meal plans can end up catering to what the children like. This is one time that we are going to take our husband's preferences above everyone else's preferences - including our own!

2. On special occasions like Father's Day and our husband's birthday, our husband becomes the center of attention. This is our chance to make him a priority for no reason other than we love him. Wouldn't we appreciate it if they did this for us? Let's go first, and make a special day just for our husband's. Get into it - maybe make it a surprise and get the children involved. Take just one evening and shower him with kisses, hugs, and all his favorites. It's not good to spoil your children - but it's okay to spoil (and I do mean bless!) your husband!

3. Take this opportunity to display our love. Titus 2:3-4 says the older women are to teach the younger women to "love their husbands". Selfishness hinders love. Take the time to give thoughtful care to how you can exhibit love to your husband.

I am reminded of the 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. In his book, the premise is that we all experience love differently. Some need words of affirmation, others need quality time, gifts, acts of service or physical touch.

As we go through these challenges, we will hit on each one of these love languages. There are some husbands who this challenge is going to speak volumes of love to. So let's get busy in the kitchen ladies.

I made my husband his special dinner on Saturday: Hawaiian Meatloaf (I'm posting this recipe tomorrow), homemade mashed potatoes with cheddar cheese, and corn. His favorite dessert is cheesecake and his favorite drink is my mom's orange julius recipe but it really didn't go with this meal. So we are having our orange julius's with my quick and easy pizza bread tomorrow night! And yes, he was a happy hubby!!!

It's your turn, if you are a blogger tell me your plan - OR if you already made the meal post the pics (and even a recipe if you have one to share!) We'd love to see and hear about his response! If you do not blog - comment below with your plans!

Courtney,

I just found your blog and I must say I find you to be so inspiring. I've been a faithful follower all my life. My father was a minister. However, I have a desire to learn more and maybe do a bible study and women's group in my church. Reading your posts have inspired me to start something on my own. I have also been having difficulty in my marriage so I'm going to start looking at your weekly marriage challenges. I want to be the best wife and mother to glorify God.

I knew this was coming so when we were driving to FL I started talking to my husband about favorite foods... towards the end of the week we will be having:
Steak
Shrimp cocktail
Asparagus
Mashed Potatoes w/ white gravy
Chocolate Cake
Red Gatorade :)
*He has lots of favorite desserts, so I am going to try and make 1 a week for the next 6 weeks!
Thank you so much for this challenge! I am enjoying it soooo much... by the way, we had dinner guests Saturday night-- I purposely served him first before guests and kids- you had blogged on this a couple months ago.
Again, thank you Courtney for your ministry! You are fullfilling Titus 2... you are teaching me how to love my husband! Love ya!

Courtney,
I really love your blog. You keep me grounded and remind me to put my needs last, keeping my family (especially my husband’s) needs first.
My husband does the cooking in the family so this is really a challenge for me. I think I will have to make some dessert for him or do some acts of service this week for him. I being the care taker and mom in the home is hard for me since I work full time but you really inspire me to do what I can and I continually pray for the Lord to guide me in the best of my abilities. I think he uses this blog to help keep me focused.
Thanks again,
Christina

As a husband I can say, "Amen!" to this one! Men do respond well (at leasts most of us, I think ... I hope) in this area.

LOOOOVE this idea!! I'm going to be making beef stroganoff, louisiana carrots, salad with dried cranberries and mandarin oranges, and chocolate chip brownies with vanilla ice cream and fudge topping. YAY! He will love this! And I love doing it!

He also likes it when I decorate or spruce something up (he likes my style!) so I'll do a little project.

What a great idea! I just made one of my husband's favorites a few nights ago, and tonight I made one of my son's favorites.

I'll make another hubby favorite this week. We rarely serve dessert so I'll have to ask him but I think it'll be a marionberry or key lime pie. Thanks for the idea and thanks for linking up today.

My husband has expressed a desire for more meatless meals. So this week, I'm doing all vegetarian meals using fresh, local, organically-grown veggies from our farmers market.

I'm sort of bummed that this week fell when it did because my husband had some surgery early this week and hasn't been able to eat normally all week. I've been waiting on him hand and foot and bringing him all the gingerale, applesauce and soda crackers he's been wanting, but I'm sure that's not the same thing. I'll have to post again when I'm finally able to cook him up his meal.

Courtney,

Your Challenge has inspired me to have a challenge of my own for this week to become a more intentional encourager of our husbands. I would be SO honored if you would stop by and check it out and give me any feedback you might have...I really respect what you are doing with yours. Thank you for all of the wisdom you share with us on being better wives!

Hi there,
I know this is a little late but I thought I'd share with you guys something fun and food-related that I'm doing for my DH tomorrow for his birthday. I bought him a few of his favorite snacks (Rockstar energy drink, Orange crush drink, Cheez-its, U-No candy bar, Hostess cupcake, beef jerky, Jolly time popcorn, corn nuts, Big Hunk candy bar, Mr. Goodbar, Sugar Babies, Mike and Ike's, and a package of Lifesavers), I know, I know- alot of sweets and junk food but I also wrote this letter out for him and the kiddos and I will take it to him tomorrow when he's at work.
Dear "Mike" (for Mike and Ike's),
Since it's your birthday, and you're such a "Rockstar" in our book, we thought you deserved a bag of goodies. You may be a "Cheez" sometimes, but you truly are a "Lifesaver" for us. You make life so much fun because you are such a "Jolly" person, a little "Corn"y sometimes, but never "Jerky". We'll just call you "Mr. Good". I'm sorry that your "Paydays" never go to anything for yourself, but "U-No" we appreciate everything you do for our family. And after all these years together I'll still got a huge "Crush" on you because you're such a "Big Hunk". So here's a "Cupcake" for your birthday.
Love Julianne and your "Sugar Babies".
Anyway, thought I'd just share this fun idea. (sorry it was such a long post)
Julianne :)
