How To Do A Messy Bun Up-Do

For years I've warn a head band or pony tail on days when I didn't have time to fix my hair. But I discovered this messy bun this winter and have found it to be a nice quick way to pull myself together on days when I have no time for fixing my hair. So I thought I'd teach you my trick if you are looking for some up-do ideas!

Courtney, I'm a "short hair," but my daughter has very long, thick, wavy hair and I'd like to try on her. What kind of "pins" do you find work best? She only wears ponytails or a long braid so I'd like to try this! Thanks!

Thanks guys! I'm glad to share it! Anonymous - I use the half sized bobby pins - they are about an inch and a half long - they hide well :-)!

I do this almost every day, LOL! BUT I never thought of putting the bobby pins in to hide the band or even adding a cute barrette or bow! I will have to try these!

Very cute, Courtney! I love how FAST it was to do, even for your really long hair. The flower was a cute idea, too.

We'll be giving this one at try at our house - thanks for the video :-)

Have a great weekend!

You're so neat. You kind of seem like a blogger celebrity to me, but there you are inviting me into your bathroom to show me your messy bun! How cool and humble and fun is that! I'm almost sorry that I cut my hair off (I asked you questions about your hot roller do a while back) but my shorter do is nice for now and when it gets long again I'll try out the messy bun.

You have a very charming little camera man too. What a great job he did. He's so still and steady, he almost blended in with the wall!

Thanks for your blogging ministry. What a blessing it is to me.

Courtney,
Thanks for posting this video. I often do the first part of pulling my hair up through the ponytail but never thought to hide the band using bobby pins, etc. Awesome! My daughter does ballet so I know how to do the classical ballet bun but it is so time consuming. This is great for when we are in a rush for both of us. :o) Hugs!

Well, I do remember you explaining how you did your hair in an elevator in college. You said each night you put your hair in a pony tail and then put curlers into the ponytail. I was always impressed by your results. Somehow, I had trouble duplicating! But these are some good ideas! My hair is kind of long now (by default, not design!).

Sarah - I'm not sure which Sarah you are? but this cracks me up! Because you are dead on in remembering this detail! In college I used to put my hair in a high pony tail and then divide my hair into 4-6 sections and roll my hair down into a bun - and voila - in the morning - curls and fullness from the pony tail lol!!! I can't believe you remember that! I've always enjoyed messing with hair - maybe I should have been a beautician - I missed my calling lol!!!

Thanks for the memory!
