I'm Nervous!

Ok peeps! I'm usually a cool cat about most things BUT I've been invited to be a speaker at a conference for blogging christian women. You can check out all the details of the conference and who all the speakers are here.

Speaking is usually not a problem for me...BUT the caliber of the other speakers makes me nervous! These women are women I admire deeply and well - that makes me a bundle of nerves!

So I remember about 10 years ago leading a Beth Moore Bible study. There were over 30 ladies in the room and I blurted out before we began, "I'm nervous". A woman who I did not even know - pointed her finger straight at me and said "That's pride". It was like a dagger to my heart and I will NEVER forget it.

Why? Because after evaluating her judgement she was probably right. Why was I nervous? Because I didn't want to say something stupid, be boring or irrelevant. I wanted to do a good, no great job! And that was pride - it was about me, me, me.

So as I humbly prepare for this conference, I will try to leave my pride in the trash can and walk in the Spirit. I am praying God gives me something God honoring and useful to say.

I hope to see some of you there! I know the tickets are going fast. They just started selling them this past Monday,March 1st and all 75 of the early bird tickets are sold out!

I must say a mighty BIG thank you to Sarah Mae at Like a Warm Cup of Coffee for this opportunity. This girl is a 10 talent woman and if you have never been to her blog - it is a must read! She has worked so hard, along with Jessica at Muthering Heights and Dana at Mrs. Money Saver to organize this event.

Ok - it's time for me to just calm down. Breathe in, Breathe out...

Walk with the King!

Courtney, I am so excited for you!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could come to Relevant... but it's looking like that isn't going to happen for me this year. I will be praying for you and the other speakers, as well as Sarah Mae and Jessica - what a beautiful opportunity to encourage one another and sharpen each other!

I love the thought about nerves revealing our pride. So true - and a good reminder.

Go confidently and humbly forward, knowing that God has called and equipped you - and it is His message you share! :)

You'll do great! I'm excited to meet you because we're both from the Canton-Akron area! I've been reading you for a while and always love how you speak the truth but never sound prideful!

I only discovered WLW a last week and it has blessed me so much in such a short amount of time. So having been challenged and encouraged so much by your blog, I'm really glad that you'll have the opportunity to bless even more women....wish I could go myself!! :-)

One thing I do know is that although 'nervousness' could be an indicator of pride, I'd rather have a speaker get up and be nervous and say so, because they want to do their best for the Lord, than have a self confident teacher who doesn't need to rely on Jesus, but has 'confidence in themselves' that *they* can pull the thing off.

I don't know any of the other speakers other than Sally Clarkson (and now yourself!). But, I'll be praying for all of you, that you minister to all who attend, so that they in turn can minister to their families. It really does sound a wonderful opportunity and I'm really glad you've been asked.

I'm so excited for you! I love your video blogs so I know you are a good speaker too:)

I love what you shared about how that nervousness can be pride. I never thought of it that way, but it makes so much sense! Glad to be more aware of that:) Thank you!

Wow... what a strange thing for that woman to have blurted out. I wonder if she would have been as bold and quick to say that had she lived during the time of Moses when he was "nervous" about speaking before Pharaoh?

Grace!! We are human!!

I heard a very wonderful teacher on Christian radio say something like...
"There were two men scheduled to speak one Sunday morning at a large church. The first speaker was a man who was a speaker by trade. He presented himself professionally and eloquently ~ usually drawing large crowds every time he was asked to speak. The second speaker was the janitor. Now, who do you think was more likely to be prostrate in prayer, begging God to speak through him and for His strength and Spirit to be present?"

wow....

He will speak through you, and His Spirit will strengthen you!
Congrats on the opportunity,
Heatherj

I just discovered your blog last night. I'm looking forward to visiting and reading.

With your speaking nervousness, you have the right perspective...to honor and glorify God. Remember, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. God will enable you to do what He has called you to do.

Take care,
Karen

"...Sir, we would see Jesus." John 12:21 It is our purpose to point people to Jesus, and so that is my prayer for you that they would see Jesus and desire to know Him.If you focus on Him and submit your heart to The Lord, He will use you to accomplish His purposes!God Bless You! Wish we were closer to the conference!

So glad you stopped by and glad to hear you are speaking at Relevant even though I won't be able to make it out there! You will do a great job like Sarah Mae said because you already do so on your blog!

Have a great week building up your sacred home.

Many blessings...

I am so looking forward to meeting you!

Relevant has me in quite the tizzy. I'm thrilled to be a part of it. I can't wait to spend a few wonderful days with a group of women who share the faith.

And I'm nervous. I freely admit that some of my nerves come from pride. I can only lay that at the feet of Jesus. I'm human and I'm still a work in progress.
