Guess Who's on Dr. Oz?

If you have watched Oprah in recent years you have been introduced to Dr. Oz.
Dr. Oz now has his own talk show syndicated nationally.

One of our very own "Women Living Well" readers will be featured this Thursday, December 10th on the show!

Set your DVR's and Tivo's because you won't want to miss this!

Here is Heather 80 pounds ago!

And here is Heather after following Dr. Oz's tips!

Heather has written her story for us. If you struggle with healthy living I know this will be an inspiration to you. She was not able to tell it all on Dr. Oz - so here's the rest of the story written just for us!

Heather writes: For me, it starts with eating breakfast. I would be too busy feeding everyone else in the house and getting everything for everyone that I never took the time to eat myself. I would go for a long period in the day without eating. Then I would be SO hungry by midday that I would eat ANYTHING in site. That ANYTHING was usually junk food. I also ate a lot of fast food too. I would just grab something quick because I was usually on the go with 3 small children. I also ate late at night.

I work part-time on afternoon shift at the hospital as a nurse. There were some nights that I didn't get to eat supper at work so I would stop by the drive-thru at midnight on my way home. I just had really bad eating habits. I was always taking care of my patients, husband, children, etc. but I never took care of myself.

Then I had the wake up call that changed my way of life. I briefly talk about this on the show. I now eat breakfast EVERY morning, drink LOTS of water, eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks in between meals. This way I am never hungry. I don't eat fast food anymore except for something healthy at Subway. My diet mainly consists of protein, fiber, and lots of fruits and vegetables. And of course there is exercising. I try to workout for 1-1 1/2 hours, 5 days a week. I actually now look forward to my workouts. It always puts me in a better mood for the rest of the day.

It took me a year to lose about 80 pounds. I want women to know that you can lose the weight. Don't think of the big picture if you have a lot of weight to lose. Just start making very small changes and the weight will just start falling off. Also, I couldn't have done this without the support of my husband. He is absolutely amazing and I thank God everyday for him.

Looking back on my journey, I realize that I ate for the wrong reasons. I definitely ate when I was bored or stressed. Now I workout instead of putting food in my mouth when I'm not even hungry. Also, I realized I had a soul hunger. I stopped feeding my soul hunger with food and started feeding this hunger with the Word of God.

I now attend church on a regular basis and started reading the Bible for the first time. I realized that I also neglected taking care of myself spiritually. I have learned that we really do need to take care of ourselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually to give our best to ourselves, husbands, and children. Ecclesiastes 6:7 says, "All man's efforts are for his mouth, yet his appetite is never satisfied." My appetite is now becoming satisfied with getting to know our King.

What a beautiful, inspirational story. It's amazing what can happen when we stop focusing on ourselves and focus on the Lord...
