Fit Friday - Squeeze It In

The theme verse of Women Living Well is Mark 12:30 which says "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with ALL YOUR STRENGTH."

It is important for women to do weight bearing activities to keep our body strong and to avoid injury as we grow older.

Are you taking care of your body? Do you own a lot of DVD's and equipment but then find it hard to squeeze in exercise every single day? I run on the treadmill a few times a week and recently I ran a 5K. I have plans to run in a second race this August. But I will admit that it is very hard to squeeze in time to train.

In May, I wrote a post titled Self Control vs. Gluttony
link: (http://womenlivingwell-courtney.blogspot.com/2009/05/weight-loss-self-control-vs-gluttony.html) and in the comment section a reader asked me to suggest a website that was a good resource for exercising. So here's one suggestion. This fun website is written specifically for women who feel like they don't have the time to work out - so it's appropriately titled...www.squeezeitin.com

You have to check it out - she gives you all sorts of exercises that you can do while doing your housework, hair or playing with your kids - for example...lunges while you vaccuum and squats while you dry your hair. I've been doing the "hot squats" daily since I discovered this site. It's fun!

Another website that I must mention is www.milesformelana.blogspot.com

Melana Matson is nine years old, and in January of this year they found out she has a very serious, life threatening cancer called a glioma affecting her brain stem. My friend Diana has formed a team called MILES FOR MELANA that is training to take part in the Akron Road Runner Marathon this September 26th.

As of 6/30 she has over 40 runners and more than 500 miles collectively! Funds are being raised to help with the family's mounting medical bills. Please check out the blog and help them show love and support to this precious little girl at http://www.milesformelana.blogspot.com/

Love the "Sqeeze It In" concept-- as moms it seems we always need to multi-task! Ladies let's not forget that wonderful one most of us learned while "with child"... KEGELs at the stop lights and stop signs :-) Gotta keep all "areas" tone! 5 kids, and I can run for miles and miles and sneeze with leaking!!

One thing I have definitely learned over the years is...if it's a priority, you can make it work!!! Before we had our family Y membership I would spend evenings after the babies were asleep doing leg lifts and crunches while watching tv with my husband. It also helps to find something you really love. There are so many activities out there-there is bound to be something that everyone can find fun doing. I love the way I feel when I make exercise a habit-it gives me the energy and strength I need to get everything ELSE done! It's worth finding that time!! :)

PS-Diana you crack me up :)

Hi! Stopping in from SITS. Love your blog. I am always looking for ways to get fit. After having my son, those extra pounds I gained DO NOT want to leave. Love the quick tips. I can add them to my attempts to workout. Maybe with the combination of everything I will lose some weight.

I like to schedule walking dates with friends to catch up and with business colleagues to have staff meetings. You get a triple benefit of friendship, productivity, and accountability!
