When Will Jesus Come Back?

As I read Luke 21 Jesus says "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines, and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in the cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."

Then Jesus tells the parable of the fig tree in verse 21 "Look at the fig tree and all the trees. When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near."

Are your trees blossoming in your yard? These are pictures of mine yesterday. After reading an article on "Come Have a Peace" and then turning to this Luke passage, I find myself looking at my trees and plants that are beginning to sprout differently. Summer is near.

When I watch the news and see the wars and rumors of wars, people starving, famines, earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis - I can't help but to pause and think - Jesus' return is near. When will Jesus come back? No one knows the day or hour - but Jesus says we should be watching for the signs of the times - because his return is near.

Someday there will be no tomorrow. This earth that environmentalist are trying to save will be destroyed by God in the end. (Revelation chapters 6;8;16;21-22 show God's wrath poured out and the earth being destroyed and then the creation of the new heaven and earth - a fascinating read)

It's not very popular to talk about Jesus' return - although it's very popular to talk about saving the planet! Do you discuss the return of Jesus with your neighbors or non-christian relatives much? Are you concerned more about saving their souls than this planet? It wasn't popular for Jesus to say in Luke's day either. But it is truth!!! And we should sense the urgency!

Do you see your trees budding? Let it not only be a reminder that summer is near but also that Jesus' return is near. Don't wait - make your life count today for Jesus! Serve him until the day he returns - he is worthy!!

Courtney, I honestly never thought about it in this way. I have thought that the time is nearer than we think even though we do not know the exact time. But I never compared saving the earth to saving souls. Thank you for another insightful...and timely post!

Well, I have my blue recycling bin and we try to drink less out of water bottles and more out of our washable ones - but truly I don't feel compelled to go "over the top" with saving the planet when I know that one day God is just going to destroy it!! Of course - God did tell Adam and Eve to "rule over and subdue" the earth. It's important that we do take care of God's beautiful creation - but we must use our time wisely and saving souls trumps all the "save the planet" stuff!
