Healthy Dessert Choices and Feedback Friday

Since I've been sharing my meal plans I thought I'd share some of my healthy dessert options. Healthy may not be the perfect word to describe them - but they are low in calorie and fat grams. Also, they are quick and easy and child friendly! Can't beat that!

Here's some from my list:

1. Serves 4 - 12 Strawberries sliced, 1 1/2 ounce chocolate melted and drizzled over the strawberries with a dab of whip cream

2. Serves 4 - 8 Ice Cream Sandwiches made out of 16 reduced fat vanilla wafers and 1 cup of lite ice cream

3. Pretzel sticks with chocolate drizzled over them

4. Yogurt, berries and whip cream with a dot of sprinkles

5. Jello Parfait - 4 jello packets in 4 bowls with 1/4 of a banana sliced into each bowl and 1/2 of a pudding container on top of each. You can also substitute graham cracker crumbs for the jello.

6. Angel Food Cake with strawberries, whipped topping and powdered sugar

7. A frozen juice pop, "Skinny Cow" (brand) dessert or Sherbet.

Okay - it's Feedback Friday - please share a healthy dessert with me! I could use some new options!!!

oranges, apples, celery with almond or peanut butter, berries (red, blue or purple raspberries, stawberries, blackberries, blueberries) grapes, sliced red-orange- & yellow peppers, cucumbers, carrots, snap peas, mango, kiwi, cherries... you can display them on the plate in creative way... make "smiley faces" :-) raw and simple is always the easiet and healthiest. Start early my younger ones are way better about it than the older. "NORMAL" is what we make it. For Aaron it's a real treat when Mom brings home a MANGO (these are usually pretty pricey) and everyone loves to go to the STRAWBERRY PATCH in the summer!

clarification.... :-) my list would fall more under the "snack" or parts of the meal category than actual desserts. We did try banana ice cream though a few times by running frozen bananas through a juicer (screen removed). The texture is amazingly just like soft serve icecream. To that we added strawberries for "STRAWBERRY ICECREAM" and to another batch some cocoa for "CHOCOLATE ICECREAM". It was a HUGE HIT!! Once again though, my oldest was not so impressed-- he doesn't eat bananas at all.

Diana - thanks for sharing! As I was reading the vegetables I thought - hmmmm...I never had that for a dessert! But yes - veggies are an excellent snack! And fruits are the best dessert - but if we have fruit it has to have whip cream and sprinkles to make it feel a little more exciting! Thanks again for sharing!

Okay, no veggies in this comment but here goes. Take chocolate covered graham crackers. Put a dab of fat free cool whip in the middle to make a cookie sandwich. Wrap indiv. in saran or however you prefer to package them and put them in the freezer. A yummy, not too fattening snack:-)

My daughter loves "special jello" - I use my moms old jello mold recipe and pour it into sundae cups to set. I serveit with a dab of cool whip if I have it! I change up the recipe with various kinds of fruit (canned and fresh) and use low-fat cream cheese. I like that it has some protein in there, too!

I love McDonalds fruit and yogurt parfaits!Vanilla yogurt with frozen berries and granola...which can easily be made at home as well, also just as a side note.Dairy queens soft serve is virtually fat free so its not too bad either!

You are so welcome. You have a great blog with lots of very practical information. Would you be interested in writing a guest post about menu planning for me? I thought what you did last week was so helpful especially to MOMS-which is the group that usually reads my stuff. Maybe we could also do an "interview" with you where you answer some questions like I did with Patricia and then the next week do a blog about menu planning (or homemaking tip, coupons etc.). What do yo think? jean

vanilla yogurt cup with 1 tsp of choc chips and 1 tsp chopped walnuts or also the cherry yogurt is good with choc chips. I keep chocolate chips in a canister and chopped walnuts in a canister to use for yogurt, cereal, etc.
