Tasty Tuesday: Homemade Blackberry Pie

Nothing says summertime like this fresh blackberry pie! During the Marriage Challenge, we were to make our husband's favorite meals and desserts. Fruit pies are on the list of my husband's favorite desserts (right next to Cheesecake)!

Last week my sister had us over and she served this pie made with berries from her own yard (picture below). Since my vegetable garden did not do so well , I'm thinking maybe I should try growing some berries and things next year? We'll see.

Here's her recipe for Blackberry Pie:

Pastry for 9inch two crust pie (she used Aldi's brand)
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
4 cups of fresh berries
2 tbsp butter

Heat oven to 425. Prepare the pastry. Mix sugar, flour and cinnamon. Stir in berries. Turn into pastry lined pie plate. Dot with butter. Cover the top with crust that has slits cut in it, seal and flute. Cover the edge with 2-3 inch strips of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning. Remove the foil during the last 15 minutes of baking.

Bake until the crust is brown and the juice begins to bubble through the slits in the crust about 35-45 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and Enjoy!

You must have a newer larger Aldi than over here. Ours only carries the graham cracker pie crust. I've looked for years for a true pie crust at Aldi. Wow! Thanks for the recipe.

Mmm! That looks delicious! I love to make blackberry cobblers, but something happened to our blackberry bushes we usually pick from. They are completely dried up. :(

Anonymous - yes - we have a brand new Aldi in our area so maybe ours is carrying it and yours isn't :-( bummer!

Joy - lol!!! Ummmm minor detail I forgot - oops! That's 35-45 minutes and thanks for pointing that out - I fixed it in the post!

Jennifer - so sad about your berry bushes :-( Sorry.

Oh the memories of picking those sufficiently seeded fruits. *smile* Momma loved to make treats with them so I would pick the blackberries and she made treats. The only catch, I don't much care for them myself because the seeds get stuck in my teeth. *smile* Have a great day and good job with the pie. Thanks for sharing your recipie too. *smile* Sincerely, Mommy of two little blessings & so much more!

Oh, I must try that! But I'm afraid, I'll have to make two pies... My family likely will love them too much ;-) And it's a big family...
Fortunately we live in Germany, and there is an Aldi almost everywhere.
Now I must save this recipe...

That looks so delish. I wonder if other berries could be used (I love blackberries, but my sensative teeth don't love the seeds). I try to bake for my family every other week or so (any more than that and I'd have to fire up extra workouts, lol.) Thanks for sharing this, Courtney. I am so enjoying and appreciating your website.
Blessings,
Toni
p.s. I worked at the CAK airport many many years ago (Eastern Airlines).

I use this same recipe but I microwave the berries (from frozen if any other time of the year - it's my dad's favorite and he puts up gallons of berries for fresh pies all year), flour, and sugar (and cinnamon if using) for 2 minute intervals, stirring well after each, for about 10-12 minutes or until thick. Then just put it in the crust and bake until the crust is done - about 12-15 minutes. I find this way it's never a runny pie.
