Do You Admire Your Husband?

Pop quiz:

1) List all the flaws of your husband.

2) List all the things that you admire about your husband.

Grade yourself: Which question was easier to answer?

There will be some women out there who find it easier to admire their husband than list his flaws. But I would venture to say that most of us find it easier to list their flaws. It's a part of our sin nature!

So let's break out of that mold - go against the grain of the world and praise our husbands!!!

This weeks Marriage challenge is: Admire Your Husband. If you are a blogger write a post all about your husband and what you admire in him and then show it to him! He will smile! If you are not a blogger, list the things you admire about your husband in the comment section and show it to him!

Showing it to him is so important. You may THINK he already knows the things you admire about him - but I'm afraid we don't tell our husbands often enough how much we do.

Wouldn't you love it if he did this for you? Luke 6:31 says "Do to others as you would have them do to you." So here's your chance to selflessly gush about your man!

Here's what I admire about my husband:

1. He is wildly intelligent. He continually amazes me with his ideas, visions, and success.

2. He is fiercely strong. I have said before - "he is stronger than 1,000 warriors". He has survived much in his life and can handle heavy burdens and challenging situations with ease.

3. He is quick witted and hilarious! He makes me laugh all the time. His perspective on life and happenings crack me up!

4. He makes the kids laugh - he is a fun dad. Just 2 days ago, in the midst of being extremely sick with no voice - he was popping cherry pits out of his mouth by pushing his nose or pulling his ear. The kids roar with laughter! Actually, at times I have to ask him to stop being so goofy cause the kids get out of hand. He is a very fun hands on daddy.

5. He is a patient listener. He listens and listens and listens and when I think I'm done but remember one more detail I want to share - he listens some more. I am very chatty and he is an excellent listener. He is the same way with the children. Every bedtime that he is able, he sits on the bed with each child and talks with them about their day. These turn into 30 minute conversations regularly - I love it!

6. He is loyal, trustworthy, dependable, and reliable. What he says he will do - he does. He is a great provider and strong leader. He is extremely consistent.

7. Under all his mighty warrior strength, he is tender. He has a soft spot in his heart for me and the children. He would move mountains for me if he could. There is nothing he won't do for us. His favorite thing to do with Alexis is paint her nails. And his favorite thing to do with Alex is play football and teach him martial arts moves.

8. He loves Jesus. He teaches the children about Jesus. He prays for us. He fasts with me when I have heavy burdens. And he can be found regularly in his office reading his Bible in the mornings.

9. He has a very generous heart and hand. I wish I could share with you all the times he has generously given - but he would not be fond of that. But trust me - this man is a giver - big time!

10. He supports me in this ministry - Women Living Well. He encourages me to stand strong. He wisely advises me on issues. He keeps me focused. He shares my passion and is my sounding wall regularly for what I write on here.

Keith is the perfect fit for me. I am a strong woman and it takes a very strong man to lead me. I am so thankful I married my warrior! God has blessed us greatly and I know much of the blessings come because I have a man who is yielded to God and his word. He does not waver in his faithfulness to God or to me! And the security he gives me in this is priceless.

It's your turn - tell me what you admire in your husband - and don't forget to show it to your husband! If you are linking up below be sure to link back to this post!

Courtney,

I am new to your blog and love it! I am not married. I have been divorced almost eleven years and have two wonderful children. I am finally (I think) ready to open my heart to someone else. This time, I'm doing it God's way (the only way)! I am so inspired by your love for your husband. Thank you for being such a good example of how a Christian wife should be. I hope that I find my "warrior" soon (if it is God's will and only if it His will).

Hi there! Loving your challenge! I don't blog, so I am going to comment on what I admire about my husband and what I am thankful for in him. #1. He has supported me in my hearts desire to be a stay-at-home-homeschooling-mama since we were married twelve years ago. #2 He always desires for us to be togther especially if he is doing something like cooking up something good, gardening, a wood building project, or anything that I can just sit and hang out and chat with him. #3. He is a giver and is teaching our children by example every day how to put others first. #4. He loves God and is striving to know Him better. #5
He is a super-fun dad who loves to be together as a family doing things like camping, bike riding, eating out (a true treat!), card games, and especially the PlayStation (he LOVES having all-nighters with our 11 year old son). #6. He has proven how patient he is over the years as God has been maturing me to become the woman God has created me to be. The list could truly go on and on, but these are just a few things I could think of off the top of my head ;)

This is hugely important! Like everything, we often tend to see the negative first. But a good relationship isn't an automatic thing. It's a matter of building up one another. When women take the time to work on making their husbands feel secure in admiration and respect, it frees them, gives them a real sense of security, to become amazing and attentive husbands!

This is sooooooooooooooooooo important!!!

I think after living with a man for a few years, it's easy to witness his flaws...but for goodness sake, we married our men for a reason - because we admired them! There is no good reason to lose sight of that.

I love this post...I may feel a vlog response coming on! :P

I love my husband and this was so much fun to write! Thanks for doing the Completing Him Challenge over the summer and for leading us in loving our spouses in an intentional way. I posted my list and then kept thinking of things to add!

Such a good exercise, and thanks for sharing it on Marriage Mondays today. A list is good to do, but good to refer back to often.

One thing I love about my husband is that he is adventurous and nurtures that in our children, teaching them about God's creative outdoors. He chose a summer Bible study to do with the kids and is spending extra time investing in them during the more flexible days of summer. He is a man of prayer, not impulsive, loves peace and quiet, speaks words of affirmation to me, shares his thoughts and burdens, is a great steward of what God gives us ... I should stop ... here, but I'll go on in person. :)

Blessings as you cultivate your garden of marriage,
Julie

Hi! Just wanted to take a minute to let you know how much I appreciate your blog. It is like a breath of fresh air. Also, since I don't blog I am going to list just a FEW of the things I admire about my husband. #1 He is a man devoted to God and learning to walk in God's wisdom; #2 He is faithful to our family by working hard and allowing me to stay at home to homeschool our children and manage the home; #3 He is diligent to lead us in daily Bible reading and study; #4 He loves to work outside in his "spare time" and he makes sure the work is done right - he's no slacker; #5 He has a tender heart towards the less fortunate in this world, whether it be human or animal; and #6 I know that, after God, he loves me and the children more than anything. I thank God for bringing us together.
Thanks so much for providing this opportunity to list the things we admire about our husbands. You are right - it is always easy to focus on faults and so important to focus on the positive!

I tell my husband and my children how wonderful of a dad he is/they have once or twice a week and have for years. Maybe there are other women who have equally as good of fathers for their children, or maybe your standards aren't the same as mine, but I think my husband is the greatest dad I've ever seen. I've never seen a dad who interacts with and plays with his children like mine. He makes sure they have everything they need. He reminds me of Robin Williams in the movie Mrs. Doubtfire. Ok, I admit, sometimes he goes a little far, but I'd rather him have that fault than not care. However, just to be totally honest (am I messing up this post?), we do have our share of problems and things aren't perfect, but a lot of the qualities people admire in my children I attribute directly to my husband and how much time he loves to spend with our children.

I was struggling with this just this past weekend! I was irritated with my husband, and I decided to make a list of things that I respected in him, to try to steer myself back into a better frame of mind. I was upset enough that I couldn't think of a thing, but I made a huge list of things that aggravated me! Today as the Lord and I were discussing my lists (and my attitude!), I couldn't think of a single thing on my negative list! Thankfully, I had the presence of mind to keep my mouth shut and pray when I was cranky!

He is a loving and tender father.
My husband loves helping other people.
He is godly and has a desire for prayer, and has initiated a prayer group with high school students. I am so honored to be his wife!!!

When my husband turned 35 (2 summers ago), I bought enough blank cards to make 35 notes. I wrote on each card something that I love ("admire") about him. I then stacked them in a pile and wrapped it in tissue paper.

So he had to open 35 cards...took him awhile but his eyes were teary!! lol

Hi, Courtney! I am enjoying your blog so much. I'm going to post on the challenge soon. It really has been a challenge today. I shared a video on your blog with my mom, who in turn shared it with her husband. They are both so glad that I've found your blog! You are spurring me on in my faith. Thank you so much!

Beautiful post! When I first saw the questions I sat there and thought abou it and I suppose I am one of those women who would have a much longer list of things I love/admire about my husband than what I don't like.

This is an area that is so important. I learned years ago after realizing how often I heard and sadly sometimes participated in "husband bashing" that not only was I dishonoring my husband but I was dishonoring God. I made a vow then that I would never talk about my husband negatively but would only life him up. Since then it has become much easier to focus on his good qualities - it's also drawn us closer together.

Courtney,

So glad i've found your blog God is using you mightily in my life!!

My husband is so worthy of admiration and i have failed to give him his dues... but praise to God each day is a new beginning!

#! he is a man committed to following Christ... and to leading/witnessing to others so they too can know Christ!

# 2 he is a man of action and lives as a doer of God's word... he gives to others, and to the church and doesn't want any credit

#3 he is in love with me and lets me know it in so many ways... Flowers, cards, calls, lots of tender words, hugs'n'kisses, snuggles, and always wants to be together!

#4 he is wise, not just with worldly things like math and machines but in Godly truth!

#5 he is strong and willing to work !! Long days on his job, then at home to improve our house or repair/fix/build ANYTHING!!!
cars, bird houses, additions to the home, lawnmowers, toilets, you name it ... even computers!!

#6 Did i mention he is sooo handsome!

#7 he can make me laugh---even when i am trying to be angry

#8 he will listen to me, really listen and he shares with me his heart

#9 he uses his talents for the Lord he is a drummer and is constantly seeking to improve his skills to bring greater glory to God

# 10 he is faithful and true to his word... especially his vow to love and cherish me --i am blessed above all women because he is my husband!!

thanks Courtney for letting me share this here since i don't blog!

First of all, could you change my email address? This is my new one. Sorry! I'm not very saavy! SECOND of all, an update to my first post...We got home REALLY late last night and I was putting the baby to bed and walked into the livingroom and I saw my huband with my two of our six children sprawled out on the middle of the livingroom floor engrossed in building spaceships together. The only problem I could see was that my children are 5 and 7 years old and it was 1:21 in the morning!!! Things like that used to really irritate me (as things like this are a common occurence) because I felt like he really messed up my schedule and I always used to compare him with other men. However, God humbled me at one point and not only showed me that my husband had unique qualities that other husbands don't posess, but that he is an awesome dad and I should be very grateful for that! So, I've really grown to appreciate the beauty in the things he does. And while schedules are still too restrictive for my husband, moments like this bring tears to my eyes and I've already told my oldest son how precious his dad is twice this morning. So, when I saw this happening (at 1:21 am) I started laughing histerically and my husband looked up with a sheepish grin and said "What's so funny?" How do answer that?

What a great post and great encouragement. Our husband is not another one of our children. He is our beloved and our partner. We need to focus on the good that they do and appreciate the unique way that God has made them, and thank them (and God) for that.

Praise builds and lifts us, and criticism and harsh words tear down. I would rather build my home than tear it down, just as it says in Proverbs. Thank you for reminding us to build today, and thanks for linking up.
