Completing Him Challenge Begins Today - Come Link Up!

Here's the Topic Schedule for those who want to link up each week:

June 7 - announce to your readers you are participating by posting the button on your site and leaving your link below. Optional: Embed the HTML from this video in your blog post!

June 14 – Post Pictures from your dating days (or tell us all about it!). Think about one thing you used to do or have as a couple that you have lost in the shuffle of life. How can you regain it?

June 21 - Remember Your Vows - post pictures of your wedding day. We will review the sacredness of this day.

June 28 - Ask your husband every morning how you can pray for him that day. Bonus: Fast and pray for him one day this week.

July 5 - Admire Your Husband. Write this post and then show it to him! He will smile!

July 12 - Make a list of 5 things you currently do and ask him to prioritize them for you of what is important to him. For example - a clean home, home cooked dinner, coupon clipping, service at church, having friends over for dinner, watching/doing sports with him, etc.

July 19 - Make him a priority. Ask him what his favorite dinner, dessert and drink are. Be sure to serve him all three one night this week. Bonus: cook his favorite dishes all week long!

July 26 - Support his vision. Discuss his vision for your family. Where does he see your family in 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years. Share with us how you let your husband lead.

August 2 - R-E-S-P-E-C-T! No complaining, criticizing, rolling your eyes, nagging, or giving him any friction this week. Enjoy a week of peace in your home!

August 9 - Kiss Him Like You Mean It (and be sure the door is locked!)

Link Up!
If you are a blogger post this button to your site and link it here:

Optional: embed this video in a post!

If you do not have a blog and you plan to participate, let me know in the comment section and then comment each week and let me know how it goes! I will be praying for each one of you by name as you join me in this challenge!

Walk with the King!

I pray that God will be mightily and graciously at work in all our hearts as we do this challenge. And I pray that our husbands will be pleased with us, and will notice the change in our hearts, as we seek to serve him better. In Jesus' name, I pray.
And can I get a load "Amen" sisters?! Let's praise our awesome God today!

I don't have a blog, but I still plan to do this. Although some of things may be a little different on my front, But I am going to do it & become the best wife (& mother) that I can be. I know my husband doesn't expect too much from me, as I am disabled and some days can not get out of bed, but I always try my hardest and 99 times out of 100 theres a hot meal on the table for dinner, sometimes even lunch and breakfast are hot meals, depending on everyones schedules!

Thank you for this Courtney, your blog and your messages have been a HUGE help to me & to my family! Good luck to all on this challenge & do not give up! We're all capable of this, so dont give up!! Stay strong & make yourself into the wife that completes him!!!

Thanks again Courtney

Waaa! This one makes me sad. I'd love to participate with the non-blogging aspects and totally plan on doing what I can, but my sweet husband deploys to Afghanistan in a few weeks and I won't get to kiss him like I mean for whole year! But I know he'll feel better knowing he is covered in prayer and that the homefront in organized and taken care of!

This morning I woke up so exhausted. I went to the bathroom and... exhaled. I knew my husband was leaving for work in an hour and I knew the right thing to do would be to make breakfast for him (especially since he normally leaves for work at 3.00am way before I wake up)... but all I wanted to do was to go back to sleep. Exhaled again. The verses started popping up in my mind and there was this inner battle inside of me.

I chose the right thing. I made him breakfast without even feeling sorry for myself. But I was confronted by how little I actually do serve my husband (using my busier work schedule as an excuse).

I read about your challenge this morning and I knew I had to do it. It couldn't have come at a better time.

Thank you.

I gotta be honest here...when I first saw the post about this I rebelled at the thought...'becoming the woman HE needs??" Pah! What about ME!!! Yes, that's what I thought, at first!!. However, God's been working on my heart in this area for awhile now so I know there's no coincidences and this is definitely a "God thing" as I call it! :)

Thank you for doing this! I look forward to the challenge...and it'll help me get my blog back on it's feet!

I just found your blog and am in real need of your Completing Him Challange. My marriage is at a crossroads right now. We (at least I think we) take our covenant vows very seriously so we know there is no out. I need to do everything in my power (with the Lord's strength) and your challange will be a good place to start. I know I can only change myself and there is oh so much that I can change to make our lives better. I won't be posting on my blog....just too personal and not common knowledge the struggles we are having but will enjoy sharing here.
I look forward to hearing everyone elses journey too.

Well hello again - I have a beautiful update for you and those who prayed and have been and hopefully still are praying for me and Joe (and our 5 kids). After winning the tickets to the 'Woman Inspired Conference', staying truly committed, seeking any and all Godly advice, searching in the best self-help book ever (my Bible) and falling to my knees in prayer at all hours - Joe and I are officially back together and recommitting after 1 year and 1 month from the day he left. It actually happened this past friday night upon him asking me out for a date! We are still 5 hours apart, but he will come 'home' as much as he can on weekends for now, til we figure the rest out. So this couldn't have come at a better time than now - thank you. May God keep blessing your sweet life. Sisters in Christ - Michelle

Just wanted to say thank you for your blog! It is so encouraging in so many areas I seem to struggle with! Becoming a heaven-minded homemaker is the desire of my heart and doing it for HIS glory! Keep walking with the King and encouraging the rest of us! God Bless you!

I came across your blog through the new one "Raising Homemakers", and I've already been blessed so much through your 'Led by the Spirit' summer challenge- so hey, bring on another challenge! This one for husbands is so wonderful, and I know both my husband and I will benefit from. And, it just so happens that the challenge ends on my anniversary- August 9th, we'll be married 13 years! So this challenge is very timely.

We've recently come to a crossroads in our marriage and I've had the rather difficult realization that a successful marriage doesn't depend on being whatever a "perfect" wife is supposed to be, but rather being the wife your husband needs you to be. Wow, seriously? Jesus commands you to subjugate yourself back into 1959? Glad I'm a Jew.

In all seriousness, I think your heart is in the right place, but it does worry me that this is ALL about what HE wants. Uhh. What about what you want? What about taking care of yourself? What about, you know, some mental challenges so you don't commit hari-kari because *everyone in your life thinks you are their servant?

Sorry, I know you mean well, but this post really made my skin crawl on behalf of all married couples who work toward a PARTNERSHIP in their marriages.

PS if this comment actually makes it onto the site, I will be impressed.

Just wanted to leave a little note of encouragement after reading a few of the recent comments. As a woman who has experienced divorce, & has learned SO much (the hard way) about what marriage really should look like, I believe what you are encouraging us to do is right on, and totally Biblical. All who claim to follow Christ are called to be servant-hearted, and that especially applies to our families. And anytime marriages not only survive but thrive, then Christ is glorified in that. So thank you for encouraging wives to respect and honor our husbands and grow our marriages. I pray that the women who don't understand this would come to realize how much even they themselves could benefit from these very practical ideas. Again, thank you.

Hi Courtney. Just wanted to encourage you today. You are doing an amazing thing...encouraging wives to be the husband GOD calls them to be. It isn't popular in our society today..which is why it is touching a few raw nerves...but know there are hundreds of women who desire strong Godly marriages and desire to love and serve their man..the man God gave them. We who love Christ know and believe that submit isn't a dirty word.

I went and read through the comments on ScaryMommy's post... Many of them commented on the fact that marriage is a 2-way street. As a Christian wife, who is also a pastor's wife, I fully and totally agree. It takes two to make a happy home.

But I strongly disagree with their opinion that all encouragement to be selfless should be toward the men, or that the challenge should have been directed to both genders simultaneously. Somewhere out there, I hope, a man is encouraging men to be kind and thoughtful and caring to their wives. But Courtney is a woman, writing to her fellow females about their half of their marriages, not their man's half - so a challenge to women is totally appropriate!

I have to say that my husband and I are among those who call their marriages an "equal partnership". We both work, we have always shared the housework, and we are both fully engaged in parenting. Neither of us is the "house drudge"... He takes care of me, and I take care of him. We intentionally work to build each other up at home and in front of our friends - so neither of us ever forgets how much we are loved and adored by the other. But I don't see Courtney's post as advocating inequality at all.

There's so MUCH selfish meanness and overwhelming egotism in society today... what's so repulsive in one woman talking to her readers about spending a summer trying to be nice at home? Is that really so infuriating? This isn't 1950's subservience - it's choosing to model a daily focus on meeting the needs of others...

Thanks Courtney, for taking what some may see as an archaic concept, and giving women a chance to put wheels on it.

~John 15:18-20~

(18) If the world hates you, know that it hated Me before it hated you.

(19) If you belonged to the world, the world would treat you with affection and would love you as its own. But because you are not of the world [no longer one with it], but I have chosen (selected) you out of the world, the world hates (detests) you.

(20) Remember that I told you, A servant is not greater than his master [is not superior to him]. If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word and obeyed My teachings, they will also keep and obey yours.

Keep your head held high, Courtney. You are teaching the Word of God and have done nothing wrong. Your heavenly Father is proud of you and so are we.

So much love to you, girl <3

[deep sigh]
where do I start?

I just read all the follow up comments at scarymommy and blogfrog and my heart is saddened at what some of these women posted. I definitely fall short of what God wants from me as a wife - but at least I am trying rather than ignoring it and watching my husband distance himself from me. The worst moments in my short marriage were when I felt like I deserved something and it was up to him to understand and accommodate me.

I disagree with the 50's remark. You don't have to grow your own potatoes to make your husband's favorite meal. My husband and I both work 90 hour weeks juggling many things. I do not have time to take care of everything as I should but it does not mean that I can not respect him and help him.

I know you have already got a lot of encouragement - but I wanted to make sure that I communicate a THANK YOU from my heart. I love your blog and it is inspiring me to be a better wife to my wonderful husband.

I am in 100% support of this challenge!!! Last week I came to a not so pretty place in my life when I realized that I needed to put my blog aside for a little while I get my life back in balance.

In my heart, becoming the help-meet that my husband needs comes only second to being the daughter of Christ that I am meant to be and the two are actually spun together...

Due to some personal health issues (which I go into more in my last blog article) my life had started to get quite out of balance and I wasn't addressing the needs he has for me to fulfill like I should. So after much heart ache and introspection one evening...I made the decision to stop blogging until I can get my priorities balanced out in real life not just in my heart. Some of my friends were shocked...the great ones understood and stand behind me 100%. Then I found your blog just the other are the true encouragement I need right now. So I am committed to this challenge...right now...through soon as I am back up as a blog I will write all of the challenges there. Thank you for stepping out and challenging us to be women of God's Word!!! Sadly, women like you-determined to be holy daughters of our King, who are not all talk, are so hard to find today!

I am praying for you!!!

Joyfully in Jesus,

Mary Joy

What's wrong in wanting to love your husband strong and with a strong desire knowing God will bless it fully. I have somewhat empathy for some of these women and it's apparant they are not 'that' happy in their situation. I will be praying for them.

Thank you so much for the verses you posted here! What a beautiful reminder of how God says we are separated from the world and those that are of the world will not understand and will persecute those of God. This is exactly how He said it would be. I'm smiling from ear to ear to know Courtney and others are this close to Christ. I am writing all these verses down and putting them into my 'verses to memory' journal so that I can always reassure myself that no matter what the world has to say, I am on the right track! Hugs to all - Let's lift up His name even HIGHER!!

I think these other women who have posted negative comments have done so because they do not have a personal relationship with Christ, or perhaps they just don't have a strong relationship and don't know the correct Biblical (God's) view on marriage. If a person is not saved they have not been born again, they do not have the mind of Christ, so all this talk on submission and selflessness is foreign to them and will make them mad. We, as Christians, who have been born into the family of God, would be more understanding to what the Bible says about marriage. We are fullfilled when we follow God's plan for marriage. And as Christians we are to be Christ-like, and Christ showed us what unselfishness really was when he died on the cross. We are to have an agapa love like Christ did, and the word agapa means an "unselfish, self-sacrificing concern". Self-sacrificing! So I know that Courtney is right on with this challenge and those who oppose it are really just opposing Christ.

I love this idea! I actually got it from another blog that was blasting it (Scary Mommy) but I think it's great. Although, I'm not sure how to grab the button or the html for the video, since you didn't include that anywhere. Anyway, I also saw the side button to raising homemakers and that looks really great too. I think I might just follow you now!

I am really excited about this. This is an area that I struggle with, but God has put it in front of me lately telling me through different avenues that I need to work on this. So thank you for this challenge. And I am loving GMG! This is my first year to do it and what a difference it has already made. I really appreciate you for sharing your faith with us and helping us with our relationship with God and our family. Thank you.

So... I'm totally late to this event since I just discovered your blog about 20 minutes ago, but I have to say that I cannot wait to do this!!! This also could not have some at a more perfect time as the past couple of days have been rough for me mentally and emotionally.

So I'm just gonna jump in both feet and bless my husband!! I wont be able to do all of it on the exact date, as I am going to Ethiopia for three weeks (!!!!) but I am going to try to find a way to fit in the weeks I miss somehow.

God bless and keep on doin' what your doin'. No matter what the nay sayers say!!

God bless!

I have just discovered this challenge through Confessions of a Non-Domestic Housewife blog and was upset by the fact that you have had such negative reactions to this, though not surprised. I am curious about what was said, but I don't think I will waste my time searching out those comments. I am with you and am thrilled that you are hosting this. It has come at a much needed time in my marriage. I hope I can get the button to work right, going to try right now after I post this.

I am in! I've been reading your blog for a few weeks now and since I don't blog, I keep forgetting to get on here and let you know I'm here. :) Thanks for all of your encouragement to be the wives and mothers Christ would have us be. It's very impressive that you have people in such a tizzy over who you are and what you are doing!...Must mean you're doing something right!...The "world" hated HIM too!! ;) You go, girl. ;)

I don't blog as I have a husband and two active little boys to take care of. I discovered your blog recently and would love to join you in this challenge. It comes as something especially needed since my husband and I have been so busy in our life together recently. Thank you so much for your wonderful blog and for the encouragement you bring to live a live centered on Christ. Also, while reading many of your posts, much of what you said reminded my of two books. I thought you might really enjoy them. "Helper by Design: God's Perfect Plan in Marriage" is especially pertinent to this challenge and is my favorite marriage book. "Because He Loves Me:How Christ Transforms Our Daily Lives" is about keeping the gospel central in our lives. Both books are by Elyse Fitzpatrick. I think that you will truly enjoy them.

Thank you for your encouragement. I am excited to join you in this challenge.

Let me fix some of that for you:

Let me fix that:

June 28 - Ask your husband every morning how you can pray for him that day, because you know he's going to do something assinine, and he needs some prayers so you don't kill him.

July 5 - Admire Your Husband, after all, he's probably off today for 4th of July, so tell him how great he is at bbqing and sitting around drinking beer.

July 12 - Make a list of 5 things you currently do and tell him those 5 things are now his job.

July 19 - Make him a priority. Ask him what his favorite dinner, dessert and drink are. Be sure to make reservations so he can enjoy those!

July 26 - Support his vision. If he loses his glasses... again, tell him they're on his dresser like always.

August 2 - R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Find out what it means to me!

August 9 - Tell him to kiss your ass when he falls short on the jobs you gave him back on July 12.

Lori - you definately are taking a different approach to your marriage than I am!

I would be curious to see what would happen if you changed your approach and tried this challenge. It sounds like what I suggest is foreign to your marriage. Why not throw some excitement in - I'd LOVE to hear how he responds - let me know if you do try it! (and if you blog I invite you to link up and tell us how it goes for you!)

Super late to the challenge, but God brought me here (via Raising Homemakers) in His timing and I'm starting today.

I am also incredibly thankful to Laura for posting the Scripture from John about the world hating us. Remember - the Cross is foolishness to them who are perishing. I pray they let go of their pride and look to Jesus Christ before it's too late. I will also pray that they have the courage to think of their husbands before themselves... I have to pray that for myself every day. ;)

(I had to remove my earlier comment - even I couldn't make sense of it for the typos.)

Oh my goodness - what a treasure! I have read and love every challenge. I regret having missed everything up to this point. Before going back and rushing through from the beginning - maybe I can find a way to incorporate these challenges with those of The Respect Dare e-course that I'm taking.

I'm in my 4th (and FINAL) marriage. I had no idea - emphasize NO idea - how to be married - I was very self-centered and blamed everything on him(s). I will NEVER do that again. Never!

I hope no one minds if I step into the group this late?
