So I'm looking for feedback here! Let's share - what book(s) are you currently reading or have laying around on your nightstand or coffee table?Here's what I'm reading:
1.) Taking Care of the Me in Mommy - Realistic tips for becoming a better mom - spirit, body and soul by Lisa Whelchel
2.) On Becoming Child Wise - Parenting Your Child From three to seven years by Gary Ezzo and Robert Bucknam
3.) Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes... in you and your kids! by Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller
I can honestly recommend them all as helpful books. Disclaimer: I have not finished them all so there could be something in one of these books that I do not agree with - but thus far they have all been extremely applicable in my daily life - and may just pop up in one of the next blogs!!!

I too, have started "Taking Care of the Me in Mommy" by Lisa Whelchel. I'm also working on "The Other Side Of Love: Handling Anger in a Godly Way" by Gary Chapman, "The Practice of the Presence of God" by Brother Lawrence, and "A Hunger For God" by John Piper. I just ordered "Managers of Their Homes" by John and Teri Maxwell, and "Don't Make Me Count to Three" and "Wise Words For Moms" by Ginger Plowman. So many books, so little time to ready them all! Thanks for sharing what you're reading!
ReplyDeleteStephanie! I LOVED "Don't make me count to 3" and have passed my book around to everyone I can!!! Also I use the "Wise Words for Moms" chart regularly when I am disciplining the kids. And John Piper's "A Hunger For God" is so convicting and another GREAT read! I have never ordered the Maxwell's books but I read their monthly articles on line!

I am reading Wild Things: The Art of Nurturing Boys, by Stephen James and David Thomas. It has been very helpful for me in learning to understand the way my little boys' brains work! That's it for me right now...but all of these books mentioned are inspiring! :)

ReplyDeleteI just finished "The Shack", as you know... that one took me a longer to get through since I was taking notes. :) Now I'm working on "Christianity in Crisis" by Hank Hanegraaff - interesting and disturbing, I have to say! We're also reading through "Celebration of Discipline" by Foster with our small group. Next on my list is Dobson's "Bringing up Boys." We'll see... my reading pile is usually a little suffocating! I would love to pick up some lighter nonfiction - hopefully once this round of Bible study is done I can give myself a bit of a mental break!

ReplyDeleteI love to read too. I am reading "When God Writes Your Love Story" by the Ludy's. A great book! Married or single. I have daughters and got a lot of good info from this book to prepare them as they get older and want to date.
ReplyDeleteI am also finishing up (for about the 4th time) reading "The Power of a Praying Wife" while updating my prayer journal for my husband.
"One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven" by Mark Cahill is next to read.
I read the Maxwell's online plus have several of their books. Very good!
Nate and I have challenged each other to read through the first five books of the Bible for the month of Feb. It's all I've had time for this month :) I'm in Numbers and hopefully will not be pulling an all nighter here soon...

ReplyDeleteCourtney, have you read much of the "say good bye to whining complaining and arguing" yet? I think I still have that one in my basket of books to read.
I checked out a book called "Get to the Point" for advice on writing. I also have Love and Logic for Toddlers and Preschoolers, The Love Dare, and a Karen Kingsbury book to read.
Kristi - you have some good books on your list - I read Bringing Up Boys a long time ago - I should pull it out again!

Jackie (the Fox Den) - Hey girl! Good to hear from ya! That's awesome that you and Nate are reading the Pentatuch together! Keith and I are reading through the Bible in a year right now - but he is way ahead of me! I've fallen behind - uh oh!!!
Morgan - I have Love Dare and it's next on the list to start after I finish these three. Yes - I only have about 25 pages left in the book "Say Goodbye to whining"...it is an excellent book based on honor - the theme is: you honor your children, make sure they honor you and their siblings and you will have a peaceful home. Very good reminders!
