Janelle's answer "moderation". Below she openly shares her struggles with food and what she does when it starts to take over her life.
"A lot of gluttony is born of boredom. Life is not satisfying or stimulating, relationships feel empty, and work is boring, but food is always there and tastes so good." -John Piper
Janelle writes: Here are some photos I have taken over the past 2 weeks ...
Here are my groceries!!!! Oh wow...where is the coffee? Diet Coke? Doritos? I left them back at the grocery store, haha. Out of sight, out of mind.
The past 2 weeks we have "downed" a lot of smoothies! I would actually prefer a smoothie to a milkshake at this point(here's my recipe)!
I opted for a spinach salad instead of a heavy sandwich at Subway. I made my own dressing with a little olive oil, vinegar, lemon juice and pepper. I felt full...and better yet, had no guilt.
My favorite salad for lunch..again I make my own dressing then add beans, corn, and salsa.
Candace's Asparagus, whole wheat pasta with Grandma Ruth's sauce.
Ladies, I am certain I will continue to post about delicious desserts..and just about anything that tastes good, lol. However, moderation is key to a successful eating plan. If you we are going to splurge-we should enjoy it, drop the guilt, make our next food choice wise and run the extra mile the next day (literally). I really hope I am making sense here and not being contradictory....For me, giving up sweets for life just wouldn't happen. Allowing myself a treat here and there keeps me on a straight path.
Love to you!

ReplyDeleteWe actually do call it "tofurkey" down here. Do you? I notice you said, "tofuturkey"
So nice to hear the voice behind the sweet smile. Enjoy the journey and discovery of new recipes and new ways to enjoy food. One of our favorites here are tempeh BLT's (similar to tofu, but with grains incorporated for a nice firm texture.) It's true, once the pallate is cleansed of higher salt and sugar content and/or unnatural flavor enhancers, it clears the way for enjoying the natural flavors and textures of whole foods more and more. As I say to our kids, "Straight from God's hand to our mouths." ;)

A lot of my friends struggle with sweets and unhealthy food too. Hope one day I can help them. For my family, eating healthy comes very naturally, growing up we ate very healthy and am doing it with my own family. We are big on fruits and veggies. I buy so much that my grocery money goes up and up but it's worth it, if it's healthy. No one in my family really like sweets either. So I'm blessed there. Hope that you continue on this wonderful journey.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! I am 19 weeks pregnant and have just started gaining pregnancy weight. It is so scary to watch the pounds go on and hope that I'm able to maintain a healthy rate of weight gain by exercising and eating right... especially when I'm craving candy! It really does come down to moderation, wisdom, and self-control. Love the video and your honesty.
ReplyDeleteLike Courtney, I don't cosider myself "bored," but I do struggle daily with eating as an "escape" from stresses, responsibilities, etc. In fact, I just got home from baby-sitting for a friend, and went directly to the fridge, grabbed a Coke, and promptly finished it. Why? B/c I was thirsty! Guess what! Coke is the WORST thing to drink when you're thirsty -- what I NEEDED was water... Greatly inspired by this post! Thank you =)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much ladies!!!! Have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. Love to you, Janelle
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this article. I especially liked it when Janelle said, "Oh wow...where is the coffee? Diet Coke? Doritos? I left them back at the grocery store, haha. Out of sight, out of mind." It immediately brought to mind Romans 14:13, which says, "But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof." If we don't buy it and bring it home, then we can't be tempted to eat it! Good article, Janelle!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the thinspo. I fell off the wagon but now I can get back on. I printed this out, pictures and all, to show that I only need 500 or so calories a day.
ReplyDeleteWill share this with my Ana buddies.
