Dear Husbands - A Letter To The Men

The title of my blog is Women Living Well. I write to women, but from time to time I receive an email that says, "my husband is so glad I read your blog - he reads over my shoulder." lol!

And so though my ministry is only to women - today I want to write directly to the husband who might be peaking over his wife's shoulder.

Dear Husbands,

We wives have loved you since the day you slipped that ring on our finger. You were everything we dreamed of and more! We want to live a life filled with open hearts, open dreams and 2 hearts beating as one. Some days we sense distance - we draw near but you are under the stress of work and bills and daily pressures. We know you just need us to hold your hand and be still. We want to talk till the the sunsets and then comes up again and we know - you don't. We know that living with a woman is not always easy - we are such opposites and yet this is what makes the possibility for intimacy endless.

Sometimes we attempt to lead - either it's because you are being silent in an area or we want to change your mind. It may almost appear that we don't want you to lead us and we want to call the shots.

But do you really want to know the truth?

Do you really want to know our hearts cry?

Please - "Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can't
Don't leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, what about us?

Show me you're willing to fight
That I'm still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone
Won't you lead me?"

We want you to lead.

Wives, do you see the burden your husband's carry?

This video captures both sides so well. For a moment, imagine the burden your husband carries on his broad shoulders everyday. The role of leader can be lonely.

And I see the hearts cry of the husband - "Father lead me cause I can't do this alone."

Are you longing for your husband to lead? Pray for him...and when he steps up and leads...step back and let him.

Walk with the King!

Update: I just got a humbling tweet that said "My husband was "watching over my shoulder" & said he heard it B4 & it made him think. We had a nice talk after."

I recently discovered your blog, Courtney and watched many of your videos and read a few posts. I shared some of the heart-felt emotion evoking posts of other Christian women with my husband too. I appreciate and love my husband for who he is, but I like your word here, and I'm going to share this with him too because life has a way of bringing us into such a busy cycle that we are pulled apart by different responsibilies, yet one in heart, so in love...but we need this. Thanks. Also, I recently started a blog, please stop by if you ever have time...thanks. :)

That is a good song. My seven year old sings it. He thinks it's "don't leave me hungry for lunch..." We had to hide our laughs because he was giving us a serious "concert".

Courtney, I Love this song and have secretly thought it is going to be used in the new movie by Sherwood pictures "Courageous"! Your post touched me so much. It's so easy for us to see how heavy our own burdens are, but to step back and see with the eyes of Christ , the burdens that our husbands carry takes sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Praise God for your sentivity to the beautiful Holy Spirit of our living GOD! Ruth Magin

Dearest Courtney.. as always you inspire! I have emailed this to my husband and I know he will love it. I've never heard the song before but its so beautiful. One thing I will add though, which I've told my husband before... sometimes they need us to be strong for them too and I want him to know that he can lean on me whenever he needs to.

Love & Blessings

Such a timely post for so many! We live in a culture that devalues leadership qualities in our men/husbands. Moms, we are training and raising up the next generation! We, with our husbands, must make sure our sons are being prepared to lead. Blessings! ~Lisa

I love that song! Recently my husband and I had ben having some serious struggles in our marriage, and I asked him to watch/listen to that song because it was my heart's cry. He did, and told me he couldn't finish it because it was softening his heart.
(We are now working things out, not necessarily because of the song, but because of God's heavy hand on our hearts.)

I had heard this song on the radio a few times and loved it. Your post goes along great with what I'm learning while reading "Love and Respect." Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom and insight with all of us!

As a busy mom I listen to Christian radio but don't get much of a chance to watch music videos. I love it when you post music videos and I can take a quiet moment and enjoy the songs I love in a totally different way.
Funny thing is, I was trying to tell my hubby about this song the other day...so I just sent him a little thank you note just now...thanking him for his leadership and dependency on the Lord and included the link for him to enjoy during a quiet moment in his day.
Thanks for sharing!!!!!!

I loved watching this video. My husband and I are separated right now, against my desires. In my heart I know the Lord is moving and I need to hold on. This song showed me one more way I can pray for my husband and help him, regardless of where he is.

Thanks for sharing and thanks for your ministry. Just recently found your blog and it has been such an encouragement to me already. God bless!

I posted this song on my blog a while back. I love it and the story behind it, which I think can still be found at the Sanctus Real website.

Interesting tidbit: by far the number one set of search engine terms that land people on my blog go something like "husband refuses to lead" or similar.

And the number two set of searches? Some combination of "husband" and "dictator."

We husbands have a fine line to walk in being both strong and good.

This was sang in our church on Father's Day this past year. I love it and I do believe I'll borrow it for my status update on FB.
Blessings,

Thank You for sharing! Yes, this is the cry of my heart for my husband. He finally told me that I have to LET him lead. I am praying for all women with this same cry on their hearts as well. Thank You!!

Oh, if only my husband WOULD lead. I am the only one working. He is self-employed and hasn't worked in over 3 months. It's time to find a new line of work, but he won't even look for another job. He is too proud to do it. He is selfish -- if he can't do what he really likes/wants to do, then he will just stay home and take up space. Yet, this man would tell you he is a Christian. Yet, based on what my bible tells me a man of God is, I really have to wonder.........

And I just found out that my hours at work are going to be cut in 1/2, or even more.
